After each rankings update, we still have scores of players we’ve yet to evaluate.
Considering South Carolina has just shy of 10,000 prep football players between the SCHSL and SCISA ranks, it’s an inevitable part of the process. But even now, with nearly three months before our next release, we’re constantly looking for talent.
We want you to see what we’re looking at.
In a new series dubbed Community Film Room, we’re going to break down players each week who have yet to find their way into the rankings. Maybe they’re young, haven’t had a chance to get their film out or – yes, it’s entirely possible – we just missed them the last time around.
In Episode 1, we’re breaking down two receivers, a defense end and two young men who don’t seem to fit in any specific category just yet because of their rangy skill sets.
Bruce Knauber Bruce Knauber 6'2" | 295 lbs | DL Greenville | 2024 State SC , DE, Greenville
Knauber is a powerful edge rusher who at 6-foot and 250 pounds isn’t really interested in avoiding contact. The Class of 2024 standout clearly already understands leverage and keeping his pads low. At the same time, his hands remain active. One of the best parts of his game is how developed he is at such a young age. Greenville is playing a competitive schedule, and Knauber has already started to stand out – all while having two years of eligibility remaining.
Deshun Corry, WR, Gaffney
One of the best parts of Gaffney QB Grayson Loftis Grayson Loftis 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Gaffney | 2023 State SC (who recently verbally committed to Duke) is that he spreads the wealth. Last season, for instance, six different Gaffney receivers had double-digit receptions. Corry, though, is by far the most experienced and productive receiver returning in 2022. Last season, he snagged 27 catches for 445 yards (second on the team) and a pair of touchdowns.
Jamari Hough Jamari Hough 5'11" | 180 lbs | WR Buford | 2023 State SC , WR, Buford
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Hough (pictured) is an interesting prospect. Yes, he lacks the height that college teams usually pin point as necessary. But Hough’s film shows a dedicated receiver able to catch the ball in traffic – both on the outside or the middle of the field. His tracking ability in that regard is going to create some opportunities, and if the small-school prospect catches the eye of the right program or two in the coming months, it won’t surprise us in the least.
Tamari Daniels, ATH, Blackville-Hilda
Daniels is every bit of a spark plug for the Hawks. As a sophomore, Daniels ran and caught the football. He returned kicks and punts. He started in the secondary. None of the 5-foot-8, 150-pounder’s stats were off the charts, necessarily, but the body of work shows an athletically gifted player with great field vision. What’s more, he’s got two years of varsity experience already under his belt.
Juels Huntley Juels Huntley 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH Florence Christian | 2024 State SC , ATH, Florence Christian
As you’ll see in his highlights, Huntley was often all by his lonesome in the open field, both while playing offense and defense. At 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds, he’s showing a huge upside in speed burst when it matters most without that being the only part of his game. As a sophomore, he rushed for 947 yards and eight scores (while averaging 9.5 yards per carry), caught eight passes for 157 yards and three scores, picked off a pair of passes, had 21 tackles and put up another 300 or so yards worth of returns.
