We have rangy safeties who can lock down a deep half of the field. There are shut down cornerbacks. We have it all and these are the eight best of that group. Let’s take a look at them!
Jackson Schooley Jackson Schooley 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Wisconsin Rapids | 2022 State WI , 6’1″ 190- Wisconsin Rapids
You won’t find many safeties like this still on the market at this time of the year. The senior is a hard hitter with the range to be able to play a deep half at the next level. His instincts allow him to get into the right position at the right time. He does a really good job of reading the QB, flipping his hips and taking off to the catch point. Jackson shines against the run because of his aggressive demeanor. He flies downhill the second he reads run and makes the play right at the line of scrimmage. He is a three level player that is looking like quite the steal. Jackson’s Senior Highlights
Stefon Mitchell Stefon Mitchell 5'11" | 185 lbs | DB Bradford | 2022 State WI , 5’11″ 185- Kenosha Bradford
The size says that Stefon is a cornerback, but he did it all for Bradford. At safety Stefon is a surprising hard hitter who closes very quickly. He has the next level gear that allows him to get anywhere on the field in a flash. At cornerback Mitchell really impresses me. His combo of reactive athleticism and aggressive play style allow him to stay right in the receiver’s pocket and then attack the ball at the high point. Stefon also has the recovery speed to be aggressive like he is. He plays to his strengths very well. Lastly, Stefon has natural ball skills that allow him to create turnovers when given the chance. Don’t miss out on this lockdown defender. Stefon’s Senior Highlights
NJ Elias NJ Elias 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Verona Area | 2022 State WI , 5’11″ 185- Verona
This kid is going to be a steal. He just got an offer from South Dakota and it’s worth it! NJ is a crazy hard hitter at the corner position, and he is just as talented in coverage. Every coverage trait is a strength. His reactive athleticism, change of direction, acceleration, read and reaction, and ball skills. It is all there. He has D1 athleticism to go with it. He can run with anybody that he has come across. He is aggressive as they come too. To have a kid like this still be available is going to be a game changer for a team’s recruiting class. Watch the film. It is fun stuff! NJ’s Senior Highlights
Logan Matthews Logan Matthews 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Franklin | 2022 State WI , 6’2″ 180- Franklin
Big fan of this kid. He is one of the few HS athletes who has strong film in zone and man coverage. His zone coverage highlights his ability to read, bait, and react to the QB and then close to the catch point. At the catch point, Matthews has the hand- eye coordination to create turnovers. In man coverage, Logan uses his usually superior size to bump receivers off their routes and win at the catch point. He has proven he can turn and run with receivers, and to top it off he isn’t afraid to get involved in the run game. His tackling is reliable and he doesn’t shy away from contact. He could make a good safety. Logan’s Senior Season
Grant Dahlhauser Grant Dahlhauser 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Monona Grove | 2022 State WI , 5’10″ 170- Monona Grove
He is undersized, but the All- Region, and All Academic DB is a steal in the making. The 4.65 athlete carries his timed speed to the field where he is able to run with the vast majority of athletes at this level, and he will continue that at the next level. It also makes him a rangy safety. At the next level, I believe he will have to slide down to the slot. There he can use that speed and short area agility to cover the quick slot options. You can trust him to make tackles out in space too. He is an aggressive playmaker. CHeck out his tape! Grant’s Senior Season
Marvell Lee Marvell Lee 5'11" | 175 lbs | DB Catholic Memorial | 2022 State WI , 6’ 160- Catholic Memorial
Marvell is an exciting option for a zone heavy defense. His highlights are filled with him sitting back, reading the QB, and then closing to the ball quickly. He clearly has the range and instincts to play in a zone heavy defense or as a safety. Either are options, but he will need to add size to be a three level option as a safety. Lee also has the ball skills to be a threat at the next level. Check the tape because he has the talent to continue playing.
