Mack Long Mack Long 5'7" | 170 lbs | RB Byrnes | 2023 State SC was injured for much of the year at Byrnes last season, but he’s already a proven commodity. In his first start at the varsity level two years ago, he claimed the Rebels’ single-game rushing mark, eclipsing a mark set by Marcus Lattimore. In emergency defensive action last year, he recorded one snap and one game-saving interception. Long is speedy enough, but makes his mark with rugged, powerful running. He’ll make it go for the Rebels.
Jesse Bowers certainly made an impact in his first year at Landrum. In a Wing offense that is predicated on misdirection and the use of multiple backs, Bowers found a way to be the go-to guy. He’ll return off a season that saw him notch 877 yards and 15 touchdowns, and will be a crucial player for the Cardinals.
Drek Carter provided a complement for Spartanburg last season, taking pressure off the passing game and allowing the Vikings to chew the clock in certain situations. He missed some time with injuries, but in some of the Vikings’ biggest games, Carter was a huge part of the mix. He scored two of his dozen touchdowns on the season in Week 0 against Gaffney, a game in which Spartanburg was right with the eventual state champions late. Against Dorman for the region title, his fourth-quarter score set the stage for the Vikings’ dramatic victory.
Demarius Foster Demarius Foster 5'9" | 160 lbs | RB Dorman | 2023 State SC was pressed into service at RB for Dorman and responded in a big way. Foster, who is a bit of a hybrid, found a home in the backfield. He led the Cavaliers with 975 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns a year ago, and should be a big part of Dorman’s new-look offense under coach Dustin Curtis.
