If you liked reading about the five guys I highlighted a few days ago, keep reading to find out about more young talent lining up behind center this fall. The 2024 class has a lot of talent who can get the ball deep down the field and come into their junior seasons with plenty of varsity experience and success. Here is part two of a look at the young guns from the Class of ’24.
Kameron Fox Kameron Fox 5'11" | 190 lbs | QB Cooper | 2024 State MN Hopkins
Arm strength is on display again with Fox. While maybe a slight step down in arm strength from others I have watched, Fox still gets the ball deep down the field and can throw the deep out effectively. What sets Fox apart from the other guys I have studied is his ability and willingness to run the ball and hurt defenses with his legs. He was often in the pass rushers sites, only to make a subtle step to the right or left to give him space to get out of the pocket and take off down the field.
Lewis Doyle Lewis Doyle 6'0" | 155 lbs | ATH Caledonia | 2024 State MN Caledonia
With returning starter Eli King Eli King 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Caledonia | 2022 State MN deciding to focus on basketball, I don’t know how soon Doyle knew he would be the starting quarterback for the Warriors. However long it was didn’t seem to hinder his development. The sophomore seemed to quickly pick up the short to intermediate passing game as he consistently threw an accurate ball fifteen yards and shorter. He can get the ball downfield, too, but his strength last season was getting the ball out accurately. Doyle is not just a pocket passer; he looks to hurt defenses with his feet too.
Daylen Cummings Daylen Cummings 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Centennial | 2024 State MN Centennial
Even the sophomore quarterbacks from Minnesota in option-based schemes have arm strength – at least this young gun does. Cummings’s primary strength is running the offense and being a true dual-threat quarterback. His reads on the option were a big reason Centennial got off to such a great start last season. Although he wasn’t asked to throw often, his arm was more than enough to keep defenses honest. On the move nearly every play and needing to make quick decisions in the running and passing game allowed him to get the ball out quickly – in the pocket and on the run.
Austin Randall Austin Randall 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Waconia | 2024 State MN Waconia
Another dual-threat quarterback with a big arm, Randall has a physical build that looks ideal for a quarterback who is as much of a threat to throw as run. He gets the ball out quickly and uses his arm strength to zip passes into tight windows on slants and crossing routes than throwing deep. He looks like he has that ability, too; he appeared to have more opportunities to show his arm on mid-range throws. If a running lane opens up, Randall will not hesitate and might break a tackle or two along the way.
