Continue ReadingWestlake High School, which happens to be one of the more notable high school football programs within the Greater Atlanta Area, consistently puts out some of the most talented prospects year after year. In recent years, they have produced various players that have gone on to the Power 5 level of play, and eventually the NFL. One of the more notable players in recent history happens to be the Cornerback, AJ Terrell, who happens to be Avieon Terrell Avieon Terrell 5'10" | 155 lbs | DB Westlake | 2023 State GA ’s younger brother. Historically, the program has produced talent such as Cam Newton, who is ironically one of the best dual threat players to ever play the game of football. As the Lions will go on to graduate plenty of talented seniors, they will also be returning just as many talented prospects next season. Below, we have listed a few of their top returners, and we doubt you will be disappointed, or that you have not heard of any of these young prospects.
Cayden Lee Cayden Lee 5'11" | 150 lbs | WR Hillgrove | 2023 State GA – WR
Next season, Lee will be returning to the Lions, and he will be one of the top featured receivers in their high flying offense. Since RJ Johnson has taken over the offense, the Lions have become very dynamic, and we fully expect Lee to make plays with his hands, and after the catch next season that will help lead their team to high levels of success, just as he did this past year. Last season, he had 54 total catches for over 1,000 yards, and 11 TD’s. This performance led the entire team in the receiving category, and we look forward to seeing the strides that he makes next year and if he can continue to average around 18-19 yards a catch.
Avieon Terrell Avieon Terrell 5'10" | 155 lbs | DB Westlake | 2023 State GA – CB
Terrell, who happens to be the younger brother of AJ Terrell, will be returning next season for his final year at Westlake. Not only has he continued to develop and grow in his craft, but he has already seen the on field success, and offers to support this fact. Terrell will continue to be one of the leaders on the defensive side of the ball, and will likely help the secondary to produce lock down coverage against some of the better teams in the entire state, which all happen to be within Westlake’s region. Next season, we anticipate Terrell continuing to make steps forward, inching closer and closer to a commitment to a prominent program at the next level.
RJ Johnson– QB
The 2022 season will serve as the Senior Season for RJ Johnson, who has been very electric for the Lions in his tenure as their QB. Not only does he offer a dynamic part of the game, as he is very mobile outside of the pocket and holds the ability to use his legs to keep defenses off balance, but he also is very effective in the air with his arm. In 2021, he passed for almost 2,700 yards and 25 TD’s, and also ran for over 275 yards, and 7 TD’s. Next year, we believe that he will continue to add on to his current success, and will have a chance of getting his team back to the playoffs.
Christian Peterson Christian Peterson 5'11" | 185 lbs | DB Westlake | 2024 State GA – FS
The Lions should be looking forward to the returning safety, as he will continue to be one of the more consistent defensive pieces for the team, and any leadership he can offer will most likely go a long way as well. Peterson not only had a good season last year, but will likely become another integral part of their secondary next season, proving that he can cover whatever man he needs to, while also being able to handle zone responsibilities. Last season, he had over 70 tackles, and half a sack, and will be looking to duplicate this success in 2022, while also attempting to rack up offers.
