The defensive linemen who chased down athletes all over the field and made opposing quarterbacks life miserable. The players listed below are guys who deserve some love for what they did for their junior years and caught the eyes of many in the area. If we have missed any names, please let us know as we continue to find the ballers in the Houston area.
Terrance Green – Cy Woods
Very long at the end position, Green can disrupt a game off the edge with his size. He shows a good punch off the ball and can drive tackles back with his reach. Green has good lateral speed to chase down plays from the backside and to not allow quarterbacks to get outside off him. He showed the ability to disengage from blocks fairly easily to make plays in the backfield. Green is a very good talent to watch out for next season.
Gerry Spencer – Westside
Spencer uses his leverage very well as an edge defender. He is very good at dipping the shoulder and ripping by linemen. Spencer shows a great jump off of the ball and anticipation of the snap. He has good speed and is physical at the point of attack. He showed to be both a very good run stopper as well as a pass rusher and can do whatever is asked.
James Eaglin James Eaglin 6'5" | 295 lbs | DL Ridge Point | 2023 State TX – Ridge Point
Big man Eaglin just clogs up the middle, but shows the skills to be elusive and get to a quarterback pretty fast. Eaglin possesses the ability to go from speed to power or vice versa and catch linemen by surprise. With his size, you may not expect him to be so light on his feet but he definitely is. Eaglin has a strong initial punch and can stun opponents, then use his quickness to blow right by. Eaglin is something serious that we will have to look out for.
Korbin Johnson – College Station
Johnson shows versatility, being able to play on the end or line up on the inside and still make plays when needed. He is a powerful player who can just move his opposition to the side. He has a quick first step and uses his hands correctly in defeating blocks, and shows great skill in disengaging. Johnson moves his feet incredibly well and can make his way into the backfield in a flash. Johnson has definitely grabbed attention with his play and soon people will start to take notice of his game.
Braydon Jones – Conroe
Jones is a high motor defender who goes full speed at all times. He may not be the size of your average end or tackle, but he plays at a much higher tempo. Jones’ quickness and jump off the ball stand out the most. He gets his hands on the opposition first and disengages before they have a chance to block him. Jones shows very good awareness as well, always looking for the ball and his redirection to the ball is something special. He is an energizer on the field who just doesn’t seem to get tired.
