Continue ReadingA great thing about covering the class of 2023 is that we’ve already seen so much of what these guys are capable of, yet they still have a year to further prove themselves. The vast majority of these top prospects have started since sophomore year, some as freshman, and many have too many offers to count, while some are on the verge of receiving those offers. Now, let’s dive deep into the top WR prospects in the class of 2023!
#1 Semaj Morgan Semaj Morgan 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR West Bloomfield | 2023 State MI (#5 overall, West Bloomfield)
Committed to the University of Michigan, Semaj Morgan is a very established and well-known receiver talent out of West Bloomfield. Allen Trieu describes Morgan perfectly as a “lightning in a bottle” type of player. He displays a great deal of athleticism while being an elite ball tracker, making some difficult catches. These abilities set him up very well for his future at Michigan.

#2 Javen Sewell Javen Sewell 5'10" | 175 lbs | ATH Cass Tech | 2023 State MI (#10 overall, Cass Tech)
We’ve been saying it and The D Zone has been saying it; colleges need to stop sleeping on Sewell. Time and time again, Sewell has performed at an extremely high level both on the field and during camps. As a WR/DB, he’s an extremely athletic player with great reaction time, hands, and overall competitiveness. I’ll have my eye on Sewell and I’ll be awaiting more offers.

#3 Darius Taylor Darius Taylor 5'8" | 150 lbs | RB Walled Lake Western | 2023 State MI (#13 overall, Walled Lake Western)
With many power-5 offers with other great offers from teams such as Ferris St and Western Michigan, Darius Taylor Darius Taylor 5'8" | 150 lbs | RB Walled Lake Western | 2023 State MI is a high-riser. Taylor totaled exactly 2,000 offensive yards on the season, with an outstanding 24TD’s. Now, I would characterize Taylor as an Athlete (ATH) for sure. He’s a threat in the run and pass game and can play defense extremely well. All in all, the offers are coming in hot and I cannot wait to see what he can do this upcoming season!

#4 Triston Nichols Triston Nichols 6'3" | 190 lbs | WR De La Salle | 2023 State MI (#38 overall, De La Salle)
I’ve seen a lot of Triston Nichols Triston Nichols 6'3" | 190 lbs | WR De La Salle | 2023 State MI as of late, and the one word that always comes to mind is “twitchy”. As a receiver, he runs some incredible routes and his twitchiness is enough to make some DB’s look silly. I was incredibly impressed by the way he performed during the State Championship against Traverse City Central, as he was trusted to quickly beat man coverage where he was tossed the football for an easy touchdown. He also looked great on the hardwood when I watched him compete against Pershing. Overall, De La Salle is absolutely stacked and will undoubtedly be the DII state championship favorites in 2022.

#5 Evan Boyd (#41 overall, East Lansing)
Boyd is a big, physical receiver out of East Lansing, a school with some history of developing receiver talent. Standing at 6’3″ 190, Boyd uses his size very well. He has great ball skills and an excellent vertical, making him able to make some nice catches. Having the body that Boyd does also means he’s naturally harder to tackle. It’s also notable that he has almost the exact height and weight of Andrel Anthony, a 2021 East Lansing graduate and freshman standout for Michigan. I see a ton of upside with Boyd and look forward to seeing him receiving many more offers.
