Based off the teams and games I’ve seen these are the top Houston area high school defensive linemen.
The Atascocita Eagles #99 Samu Taumanupepe Samu Taumanupepe 6'3" | 380 lbs | DL Atascocita | 2023 State TX DT, NG Jr 6’3 350 lbs
One of the biggest defensive tackle and lineman I’ve seen this year is Atascocita Eagles Samu Taumanupepe Samu Taumanupepe 6'3" | 380 lbs | DL Atascocita | 2023 State TX . Samu is weighted at 380 pounds and let me tell you he is more than just his size. Samu might be gigantic, but that doesn’t slow him down he’s agile, quick and very athletic. Samu is very strong bulldozing through the offensive line getting into the backfield. Samu size, strength, aggressiveness and agility make Samu one of the best defensive linemen in the area. Samu is a college prospect he currently has two offers from Texas State University and Ball State University.
The Ridge Point Panthers #78 James Eaglin James Eaglin 6'5" | 295 lbs | DL Ridge Point | 2023 State TX DT, NG Jr 6’5 290 lbs
James Eaglin James Eaglin 6'5" | 295 lbs | DL Ridge Point | 2023 State TX is a powerful and overwhelming defensive tackle. James just could not be stopped this season. Whether James was being blocked 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 he would always get through the offensive line into the backfield. James is an all star in the making this is his 1st year of varsity high school football. James was even able to make 1st team All district for his division. James has a ton of potential and will be a more dominating force in his senior year. James’ overall stats this season was 28 overall tackles and one sack.
The Westfield Mustangs #10 Anthony Holmes Anthony Holmes 6'2" | 240 lbs | DL Westfield | 2022 State TX Jr DT, DE Sr 6’2 285 lbs
Defensive linemen Anthony Holmes Anthony Holmes 6'2" | 240 lbs | DL Westfield | 2022 State TX had an outstanding season for his senior year of football. Anthony is a large body not only that, but he’s also quick and fast off the ball as well. Anthony had excellent footwork and finesse with his swim move. Holmes was able to get off the blocks to get into the backfield. This allowed Anthony to put a stop to a lot of run plays and get a lot of sacks this season. Anthony is a top college prospect having numerous colleges and universities offers. During the season Anthony decided to commit to the University of Virginia, however Anthony renounced his commit and is now committed to the University of Houston for football this fall. Anthony’s overall stats this season was 94 overall tackles, three forced fumbles, one interception and 20 sacks.
The Katy Tigers #2 Malik Sylla DE Sr 6’6 225 lbs
Katy Tigers Malik Sylla was an ideal defensive end. Malik was quick, tall, agile and strong a perfect defensive end. Malik was quick off the ball and had a long reach. Malik would easily slip pass the offensive line and deliver hard hit after hit. Malik was crucial for Katy’s defense overwhelming a bunch of quarterbacks and running backs this season. Malik was even able to catch an interception and score his 1st ever touchdown. Malik is a college prospect having numerous offers from different colleges and universities. However, Malik has decided to commit to Texas A&M University for football this upcoming fall. Malik’s overall stats this season was 61 overall tackles, 2 forced fumbles, one touchdown and 8 sacks.
The Spring Lions #99 Gerrod Henderson DE Sr 6’3 260 lbs
Gerrod Henderson is big, fast and strong an exceptional defensive end. Gerrod was always quick off the ball and a hard hitter. Gerrod was one of the key members on Spring Lions defense. Always active and in the action one way of another. Gerrod is a college prospect having numerous offers from different colleges and universities. Gerrod decided to commit to Tulane University to continue his football career this Fall. Gerrod’s overall stats this season was 72 overall tackles and 5 sack.
