The Fayetteville Bulldogs impressed many observers in 2021 with a state runner up finish. Fayetteville’s 2022 class was a talented one with numerous division one caliber players on both sides of the ball. We are going to recap the season and take a look at some of the key players as well as give a small preview to next season.
Looking first, at the offensive side of the ball for the Bulldogs. Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="75105" first="Bladen" last="Fike"] had a terrific season for the Bulldogs. He was able to make good use of a talented receiving corps that contained [player_tooltip player_id="75066" first="Isaiah" last="Sategna"] and [player_tooltip player_id="94925" first="Jalen" last="Blackburn"]. Fike threw for 4,161 yards and 45 touchdowns. Fike is a quarterback that will not be easy to replace next season for the Bulldogs. Taking a glance into 2022, sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="183595" first="Omar" last="Murray"] saw plenty of action at the running back position this season and will likely get a chance to see some snaps at quarterback. [player_tooltip player_id="149580" first="Drake" last="Lindsey"] is an accurate passer and will get an opportunity to earn some playing time in 2022 as well.
At the running back, [player_tooltip player_id="183595" first="Omar" last="Murray"] saw plenty of carries in 2021. Senior running back Uriel Espino was a battering ram in short yardage situations and will be a difficult player to replace next season. Sophomore running back Christian Setzer racked up 222 yards on the ground in 2021 and has a chance to see some carries next season. When the Bulldogs choose to run the football, they are usually effective.
The receiving corps will see some new players at the wide receiver spots. [player_tooltip player_id="75066" first="Isaiah" last="Sategna"], [player_tooltip player_id="94925" first="Jalen" last="Blackburn"], and [player_tooltip player_id="156890" first="Dylan" last="Kittell"] will all graduate in 2022 and the Bulldogs will be looking for some playmakers. Sophomore Lach McKinney will get an opportunity to be on the receiving end of numerous passes. Freshman wide receiver Jaison DeLamar has big play potential at the wide receiver spot. The bottom line is the Bulldogs are never at a shortage of weapons at the skill position spots and that is something that should remain true in 2022.
The defensive side of the ball had a number of impressive senior leaders this season. Linebackers [player_tooltip player_id="181538" first="Mani" last="Powell"], [player_tooltip player_id="120372" first="Cade" last="Fields"], and [player_tooltip player_id="75075" first="Kaiden" last="Turner"] all leave big shoes to fill in 2022. In the secondary, Owen McCone, [player_tooltip player_id="127245" first="Ryan" last="Maxwell"], and [player_tooltip player_id="143705" first="Braelon" last="Palmer"] all will be replaced as well. Plenty of spots to be earned by guys like [player_tooltip player_id="260882" first="Noah" last="Janski"] and Brooks Yuracheck to take even bigger roles on and off the field as leaders. The Fayetteville defense will be young but has the potential to be talented.
