Compliment Day Celebration
In this article:
I saw this article posted on our Prep Hoops site by the legendary Scott Hankamp, and I couldn’t resist. Compliment day is on January 24th, and it started in 1998 with its purpose being to show appreciation to others. Here, I’ll name a few athletes/ programs and compliment them.
Fruitport Football
Something about Fruitport has stuck with me. That Friday Night Feel was unlike any other, and I was welcomed on the sidelines with many people wanting to strike up a conversation. It was a genuinely A+ atmosphere at Fruitport with a lovely small-town feel.
Domenico Tejeda (Allendale ’22 NG)
He’s one of the most likable players I met this season! After a hard loss, he took the time to talk and take a picture and even thanked me for talking later on Twitter. He’s got some offers rolling in, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Domenico!
Timothy Allen Timothy Allen 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Coopersville | 2022 MI (Coopersville ’22 DE)
You were having so much fun out there when I saw you play. Even though you’re dominant, you didn’t seem cocky at all. I always get a laugh thinking about when you nearly bowled me over on the sidelines, then smiled and said hello before going back to the huddle. I rarely saw anyone have as much fun as you. Best of luck at Ferris State!
Andy Hartman Andy Hartman 6'5" | 250 lbs | OL Grand Blanc | 2022 State MI (’22 Grand Blanc OT)
You were a passionate leader all season. I had heard great things about you before the season by an old teacher of yours, Dan Command, and everything he said about you held true. You’re incredibly hard-working and passionate about football, and I’m so happy that you get to live your dream of playing for the Spartans. Keep grinding!
Carlos Alvarado (’22 Grandville LB)
You left it all out on the field against Rockford during the regular season. I could tell you wanted that game so badly, and you did everything you could to pull off the upset. The effort I saw you bring to that game is something to be proud of.
Granden Kinnie Granden Kinnie 6'1" | 220 lbs | RB Seaholm | 2024 State MI & Colton Kinnie Colton Kinnie 6'2" | 225 lbs | QB Seaholm | 2024 State MI (’24 Seaholm)
You two are always in constant contact with me and I can tell you’re working your tails off. It’s not easy playing on a Veer offense in the OAA White, but you two are different. You are the embodiment of what Seaholm football is all about. The way Coach DeWald has spoken of both of you has really earned my respect. Your Brother was a great leader in my class, and it seems that both of you hold similar qualities. I promise you, the hard work will pay off.
Everyone I met at Ford Field
The State Championships were a wonderful time. I was able to do my job surrounded by so many like-minded individuals and everyone that I met was a joy. From the Ford Field staff to the coaches, fellow media, etc, I can’t wait to reconnect with all of you again!
Jason Crenson & Kimberly Vokal (Rochester Adams Photographers)
You both were incredibly kind throughout the entire season. Your photos are amazing, and you were so welcoming when I visited your semifinal matchup, and again at Ford Field. You both were so passionate about the team and seemed to have a ton of fun on the sidelines.
