We got to watch two sessions worth of quarterbacks and we came away very impressed with both sessions and got some solid intel on quarterbacks from all over the metro, and a few from the Outstate too. Take a look at who we watched in Session I.
Gavin Knutson | White Bear Lake | 2023
Knutson was one of the first prospects that caught my eyes when I walked into the ETS gym last Saturday morning. He showed off a great feel throwing the football and did well with his ball placement. I was very impressed with his accuracy as working in a smaller gym, it can be easy to get flustered, but he showed great poise & balance in the pocket which led to plenty of plenty of throws on the money. Gavin also has the best next level measurables from this first group. Not a doubt in my mind that this kid will be playing on Saturdays in the coming years, as we got a glimpse of the Bears QB1 before the 2022 season.
Austin Randall Austin Randall 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Waconia | 2024 State MN | Waconia | 2024
Austin continued having a solid offseason, showing off very balanced footwork when working in the pocket with a calm demeanor. He not only showed that off, but his quick release continued to improve from when I watched him at our Prep Redzone Minnesota Showcase this winter. As a sophomore, there was a lot to like about his arm strength he brought to the gym as he showed great zip on the football when throwing at the wide receiver. The biggest development I would love to see from Austin over the coming years, is elevating the football. Right now his release comes out lower in his stance which might have some struggle against a bigger line. Other than that, I really like this young man’s future with two more years of football on his plate.
Tyson Vylasek | Rogers | 2022
The College of St. Scholastica commit showed off why he’s ready to play on Saturday’s. Tyson showed off some tremendous balanced footwork when working the pocket. I loved watching this kid’s vision in full circle as he showed great arm strength and was one of the quickest hitters in this session when it came to releasing the ball super quickly out of his hands. He showed a live arm and threw the ball extremely balanced with his ball placement as it reminded consistent throughout the duration of the session. The Saints for sure got a good one in Tyson Vylasek heading north.
Evan Coffey Evan Coffey 5'10" | 185 lbs | QB Henry Sibley | 2022 State MN | Two Rivers | 2022
The Augsburg commit was another senior in the group that proved why he’s playing college football next year. Evan showed off a really balanced throwing motion with a lot of great mechanics to go along with it. The biggest thing I loved about Evan was how he finished his throws, as he went thru the full-motion to assure the ball got there quickly, accurately, and that he went thru his whole process. This young man is loaded with football knowledge and is a three-sport athlete at Two Rivers. The Auggies got a solid commit in Evan Coffey Evan Coffey 5'10" | 185 lbs | QB Henry Sibley | 2022 State MN coming in for sure!
Caden Rodkewich | St. Anthony Village | 2023
Caden showed off a quick trigger in the later drills of the sessions. He was another prospect from this first session that I really enjoyed watching how he finished his throws and put together a nice rhythm working in the pocket. Watching a glimpse of Caden’s film, this kid consistently puts extra mustard on his throws with great precision to assure his wide receivers have a lead to catch the ball and get upfield quickly. He also has solid mobility to extend outside the pocket. Another incoming senior that from my eyes has the tools to play football on Saturdays.
