2022 Rankings Update: Better Late Than Never

There’s no shortage of talent throughout the entire state of South Carolina which left us with plenty of guys to choose from when it came time to update the 2022 Class Rankings. But there were a few prospects that have not only caught our eye on film or in-person during the 2021 season, but they’ve also caught the eye of college football coaches as every single one of them has one or more offers, with one already making a commitment. Let’s go around the state and highlight them: ROCK HILL/YORK CO. He broke the school record for receiving yards and touchdowns in a single season for the Stallions as they captured the 4A State Title in early December. He finished the year with 84 receptions, 1355 yards and 15 receiving TDs. From what we understand, Jenerette has offers from Sterling College, Fort Valley State College and Limestone University. He can make tackles in space, especially against stretch run plays. He finished his senior season with 117 total tackles and 9.5 total sacks. From what we understand, McLellan has offers from Averett University, Bridgestone College and Limestone University. Amarion Huskey Thompson (<a href="https://twitter.com/ThompsonHuskey">@ThompsonHuskey</a>), 5-10, 175 lbs., DB, York <a href="https://twitter.com/YorkRecruits">(@YorkRecruits) </a> <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12920048/61aeb8482aa6d602bc8ab0d2">Updated Senior Hudl Highlight Film</a> Thompson tracks the ball well in man coverage and stays stride for stride with receivers. And from what we saw on his film, he’s usually not in press coverage a lot but he can come downhill quickly. He can also come up in run support, cut off the ball carrier and make tackles in space. From what we understand, Thompson currently holds offers from Chilton (Ala.) Prep Academy, Georgia Knights Prep Academy in Snellville, Ga.   MIDLANDS [player_tooltip player_id="259960" first="Jayson" last="Tolen"] (<a href="https://twitter.com/jaysontolen02">@jaysontolen2</a>), 6-1, 170 lbs., CB, Gilbert <a href="https://twitter.com/gilbert_indians">(@gilbert_indians)</a> <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/8251132/619294405caaca0460f6ffab">Updated Senior Hudl Highlight Film</a> Tolen excels in run support in which he hustled to the ball to prevent touchdowns, like we saw on his film. He can cut off a runner before he’s able to turn the corner and closes on the ball quickly in passing situations, especially when it comes with quick throws. He finished the 2021 campaign with 60+ tackles, 3 INTs and 8 PBUs. From what we understand, Tolen currently holds an offer from Saint Andrews University. He lines up on the outside and excels when his quarterback moves on designed rollouts. He had 900 yards receiving in 2021. From what we understand, Gunter has an offer from Presbyterian College. We even saw one play where it looked like he was at linebacker and made a play on the ball. From what we understand, Franklin is committed to East Carolina University.   LOWCOUNTRY/GRAND STRAND/PEE DEE [player_tooltip player_id="259966" first="Trevor" last="Weldon"] (<a href="https://twitter.com/trevor_weldon1">@trevor_weldon1</a>), 5-8, 175 lbs., K, Hilton Head Prep <a href="https://twitter.com/HHPFootball">(@HHPFootball)</a> <a href="http://www.hudl.com/v/2GMiy9">Updated Senior Hudl Highlight Film</a> Wheldon has an incredible leg and it was evident to us watching the film when he nailed a 51-yard field goal. Most of his kickoffs went into the back of the end zone and he pinned an opponent’s offense inside their own 10 with seconds left in the contest. From what we understand, Wheldon holds one offer from Brevard College. He eats up blocks and gets into the backfield quickly. He’s big and twitchy and if you didn’t know his listed position, you would think he’s an offensive lineman. He had 33 tackles for loss and 6 sacks in 2021. None of the snaps that we saw were low. From what we understand, Smith holds one offer from Erskine College.
