These “Underrated MVP’s” managed to impress us here at Prep Redzone, and because of that, we wanted to take the time to give them the credit that they deserve.
Sam Horn Sam Horn 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB Collins Hill | 2022 State GA (QB)- Collins Hill
Horn rarely has underrated performances, but last week, his performance can be viewed as underrated due to the success that his star WR, Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA had. Regardless, Horn had success of his own, as he completed 24 of his 32 passes, for 230 yards in the air. With this, he also rushed for 99 yards, only further forcing Grayson to be honest to the ground game as a whole. When rushing the ball, Horn was able to score a TD as well, only adding on to the big 31-7 win that Collins Hill had over the reigning champs of Grayson High.
Za’Quan Bryan (WR)- Benedictine
Maybe it is because Bryan plays for Benedictine, which does not get as much attention as teams such as Colins Hill, and Langston Hughes, but he managed to have an MVP caliber performance last Friday. This performance can be viewed as a bit underrated, but he managed to catch 7 passes, for 103 yards, while also scoring twice for his team. This performance added 12 points of his own to his team’s final score that read 42-32 over North Oconee.
Justice Haynes Justice Haynes 5'10" | 205 lbs | RB Buford | 2023 State GA (RB)- Blessed Trinity
It is rare that Haynes will ever come up on a list of underrated players. Nevertheless, Haynes, who is also one of the best backs in the entire state, had a bit of an underrated game last Friday, as he managed to tote the ball 34 times, for 157 yards. While this came with 1 TD, we also view his performance as underrated due to the fact that he was able to keep the defense honest the entire night, while also being able to help control the clock for his team’s offense. By the end of the game, this unfortunately would not be enough, as his team would come out on the losing end, despite his full effort.
Holden Geriner Holden Geriner 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB Benedictine | 2022 State GA (QB)- Benedictine
During last week’s win over North Oconee, QB Holden Geriner Holden Geriner 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB Benedictine | 2022 State GA did his part to help his team get to the next round. In this game, he went 15 for 24 in the air, while also passing for 215 yards. With these 215 yards came 3 TD’s, which was a big part in his team coming out on top of the opposing team. All in all, his contributions not only forced the defense to honor the pass, but he was also able to have an 18 point contribution when it was all said and done.
Cole Speer Cole Speer 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Calhoun | 2022 State GA (WR)- Calhoun
When Calhoun got their big playoff win over Blessed Trinity, Speer was a big part of his team’s success. In this matchup, Speer happened to catch 5 passes, for 77 yards. This happened to be enough to keep the defense of Blessed Trinity on their toes, causing them to have to honor his route running, and ability after the catch the entire game.
Jarveous Brown (RB)- Carver Atlanta
Not only did Brown help his team come out on top over Pierce County in a close 19-17 win, but he also was able to help his team with clock management as well. Brown was able to do so as he rushed the ball 16 times for 108 yards. This helped to keep the ball out of Pierce County’s offense’s hands for a larger chunk of time. Because of the efficiency in which Brown ran with, we fully expect him to be a difference maker for his team this upcoming week in the championship game.
