Many times QB’s in high school end up moving to other positions based upon their athletic profile and positional needs. This group of QB’s are flying under the radar a bit and have a chance to stay at the QB position at the next level.
Chase Bayer – Paynesville High School (6’2″ 175lbs)
The commander of the Bulldogs no huddle offense, Bayer is a do it all type of QB. He’s a great athlete who threatens defenses on the ground and through the air. Bayer did miss a good chunk of the season due to injury which may explain his under the radar status. He possesses a strong arm and has the ability to make all the throws necessary to play at the next level. Watching some of his games, I was impressed with his poise and maturity as he relayed the calls from the sidelines, got his teammates lined up and then executed the play. This under the radar QB is one that should start to pop up on recruiting radars as D2 and D3 schools fill out their rosters.

Based on stats, Jones probably wouldn’t make this list as a QB at the next level. However, when I watch his tape I see a QB who is a phenomenal athlete, can break off big runs and has a very natural throwing motion. The Thunder are a heavy run team so Jones isn’t asked to throw much, but when he does he shows a live arm that can make throws to all levels of the field and is very comfortable on rollouts and bootlegs.

Buerkle is the only QB on this list that I would classify as a pocket passer. He has the athleticism to take off and run but he seems much more comfortable taking his drops and delivering the ball downfield. He has a good arm that allows him to fit the ball into tight windows, and make shot throws deep down the field. I was most impressed with his toughness, as he has multiple throws where he stands in the pocket, takes a big hit but still delivers a catchable ball to his WR’s.
Alec Turnbull Alec Turnbull 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Cloquet | 2022 State MN – Cloquet High School (6’2″ 195lbs)
Turnbull is a fun QB to watch. He shows tremendous pocket presence and does a great job of keeping his eyes down field even when he’s under pressure. This allows him to find open WR’s during scramble drills and leads to numerous big plays. Turnbull has an electric arm and isn’t afraid to fit passes into tight windows. When he’s asked to run, Turnbull has good speed and can pick up yards but he is most deadly with his arm. This is definitely a QB to keep an eye on as recruiting season heats up.
