The Prep Redzone Stock Up Showcase took place Thursday in Barrington. It was a great turnout of prospects with tons of college coaches in attendance. Here are 10 prospects that caught my eye in Prep Redzone Illinois Stock Up Showcase: Scotty B’s Top Performers!
RB Jaquan Howard (Bolingbrook – 2022)
Howard is a 5’5” running back who lit up the 40 yard dash early in the evening posting a 4.43 time. He has the ideal build and speed to be a scat back at the next level catching passes and playing in space effectively making defenders miss.
WR/TE Logan Turbyfill (Civic Memorial – 2022)
Really liked what we saw out of these jumbo receiver or tight end. Great size at 6’3” and 205 pounds. Best hands we saw from a pass catcher in the event. He high pointed passes in traffic multiple times on deep balls in tight coverage. Also showed he could be a possession guy on short routes creating enough separation.
WR Carter Knutsen Carter Knutsen 5'11" | 165 lbs | WR Huntley | 2022 IL (Huntley – 2022)
Knutsen stood out as one of the best slot receivers we saw at the event. He was so good changing directions on a dime and setting up opponents with double moves. Was effective on both short routes and deep developing ones. Wins off the line of scrimmage with his quickness. Consistently caught every pass near him.
OT Gabe Rosen Gabe Rosen 6'7" | 340 lbs | OL Evanston | 2023 State IL (Evanston – 2023)
Rosen was the top prospect at the event in my eyes. At 6’6” 340 pounds Rosen has a huge frame. Moves well for his size with good footwork. Uses his hands very well throwing around defensive lineman. If they do get any kind of initial rush he pushes them right past the quarterback on the outside. Rosen told us he is garnering interest from schools like Toledo, Mizzou, Kansas, and Iowa State. Recently took an unofficial visit to Toledo.
OT Trenton VanBoening Trenton VanBoening 6'7" | 280 lbs | OL Libertyville | 2023 State IL (Libertyville – 2023)
VanBoening stands at 6’6” 290 pounds. The junior has a frame where he should be able to add strength as time goes on and he gets in a college weight program. Probably most effective as a right tackle with his physical style of play and tenacity. Good length and should be a nice run blocker.
OG Johnny Smith (Michelle Clark – 2023)
Smith is an interior offensive lineman that is a bit on the smaller side at 6’0” 267 pounds. Physical player that anchors well against defensive tackles. Has some potential but needs to clean up his technique.
DE Andrew Zook Andrew Zook 6'4" | 235 lbs | DL Yorkville | 2023 State IL (Yorkville – 2023)
This 6’4” 240 pound junior was the top pass rusher at the event. Great physical tools with his size, strength, and physical developmental upside. Burst off the ball and has an array of pass rushing moves with spins, good use of his hands, and can bull rush as well.
DE Kole Sneed (Oak Park River Forest – 2023)
Sneed is a long and lanky defensive end with a projectable body. He has long strides and covers a lot of ground getting up the field. One to watch heading into his senior season after a spring/summer of adding strength.
DT Jakolbi Wilson (Leo – 2022)
Wilson is a 6’3” 340 pound defensive tackle that mauled opponents on the interior. He was a monster at the nose tackle spot bull rushing his opponents right into the quarterbacks over and over again in one on one situations.
DT Tyler Wood Tyler Wood 6'2" | 285 lbs | OL St Francis | 2023 State IL (St. Francis – 2023)
Woods stands at 6’2” 265 pounds. The defensive tackle did damage using his quickness with an array of spin moves to get up the field to the quarterback. Will need to add strength moving forward, but the pass rush potential from the defensive tackle spot is intriguing.
