Rogers finished with a 9-3 record on the season and a third-place finish in what is one of the toughest conferences in the state of Arkansas. We are going to look back at the 2021 season and give a brief look ahead to the 2022 season.
The Mounties used a strong start against the Siloam Springs Panthers as momentum for a strong start to the season. Rogers would use a strong rushing attack led by running back Josh Shepherd Josh Shepherd 5'11" | 170 lbs | RB Rogers | 2022 State AR . Shepherd displayed just how explosive he could be when rushed for 246 yards against Little Rock Catholic in the playoffs. During the 2021 season, Shepherd rushed for 2,024 yards and punched the ball in the end zone 17 times. Shepherd maintained a solid level of play all season and it would surprise me for him not to receive the attention of some scouts during the signing period.
Meanwhile, the Mounties passing game continues to impress people throughout the 7-A Conference. Senior quarterback Noah Goodshield Noah Goodshield 5'9" | 160 lbs | QB Rogers | 2022 State AR was a force for the Mounties both throwing as well as running the football. Senior tight end Joel Garner Joel Garner 6'5" | 190 lbs | TE Rogers | 2022 State AR is a player that can not only block and keep opposing defensive linemen off his quarterback, but he also makes for an excellent red zone target. The Rogers offense was a force to be reckoned with all season and could you running or throwing the ball.
The Mounties’ defense was not short of some star power either. Two prospects that college scouts should be taking a look at are defensive end Brady Porter Brady Porter 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Rogers | 2022 State AR and linebacker Marion Slater Marion Slater 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB Rogers | 2022 State AR . Both are players that have the potential to play on Saturdays in the future and should draw a look from scouts and college coaches. Slater is a linebacker that is all over the field and seems like he is in on every tackle. Meanwhile, Brady Porter Brady Porter 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Rogers | 2022 State AR plays with good quickness and has deceptive power. He does an excellent job of getting into the offensive backfield.
Look for the Mounties to continue to build on the momentum gained during the 2021 season. Here are some players that have the opportunity to have a big impact on the 2022 season for the Mounties. The Mounties are starting to look as if a steady stream of talent is going to be keeping the Mounties competitive for years to come.
