Team Impact
Myles had a massive impact on the best team in the state of Wisconsin. He led the offense to average 44.4 points per game, and he was responsible for a major portion of the yards and scores during the season. Overall, Myles generated 64% of his loaded team’s yards with his arm and legs. He also scored 40 of his team’s 81 total TDs. It was clear that when Burkett was on his game his team was unstoppable. It wasn’t just the raw numbers that show Myles’ impact on his team either. He also proved to have the clutch gene that only the special athletes have. In week one he led Franklin back from a 28-7 halftime deficit capped off when he completed a Hail Mary to win the Game of the Week vs Appleton North. Then with a trip to Madison on the line in a rematch with Appleton North, Burkett threw 2 TDs in the final 8:26 to lead Franklin back from a 19-3 4th quarter deficit. Myles ability to spread the ball around to all his weapons was a huge reason behind the domination of the Franklin offense. Eight players had double digit receptions on the season, two receivers went over 50 receptions and 900 yards, and four players had 20 or receptions.
Team Success
The final piece to finding our Player of the Year was did the player led his team to find success? Myles did that to the max! He led his team to a 14-0 record and a Division 1 State Championship. From week one to championship week, Myles was carving up defenses and leading an offense that was able to pour on so many points it was impossible for most teams to stay with them. In the 14 games they played, only two of them ended with their opponents within 6 points of them. Even in those matchups, it was the poise of Burkett that was key to pulling off those victories as every one possession game ended in Franklin flipping a switch and making a comeback.
The Future
The future is bright for the elite signal caller out of Franklin High School. Now that his illustrious high school career is over it is time for the next stage. Myles signed with the Wisconsin Badgers on December 15 after becoming the Badgers’ first commit of the Class of 2022 earlier this year! I have a feeling that things are just getting started for the talented QB, and I’m excited to watch him continue his playing career! #OnWisconsin
