A few of the new additions to the rankings are guys who have earned top spots within their position groups, while some have earned elite status among the entire class. This article will be highlighting 20 newly added players to the class of 2022 rankings.
Two of the more significant additions took place at the top of the quarterback and running back categories. Newcomers Logan Brook Logan Brook 6'4" | 160 lbs | QB Cherokee Trail | 2022 State CO and Bryce Vaz Bryce Vaz 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Legend | 2022 State CO solidified their spots within the top three in their positions. Brook was Cherokee Trail’s QB who showcased his talents this past fall, throwing for 3,228 yards and 36 touchdowns with only four interceptions. He completed 240 of his 370 passing attempts and rushed 41 times for 236 yards and one touchdown. Brook’s outstanding performance landed him in the number-two QB spot, 32nd overall.

Vaz is an extremely talented athlete who landed the third-ranked RB spot and the 27th-ranked player overall. His two-year tenure at Legend has been an impressive one, racking up 2,657 all-purpose yards and 34 total touchdowns over the span of 19 games. Vaz recently announced his commitment to the University of Northern Colorado (UNC), keeping his explosive talents in-state.
Dominic Mazzulla Dominic Mazzulla TE Holy Family | 2022 State CO and Gage Gordon Gage Gordon TE Cherokee Trail | 2022 State CO are two tight ends who were added to the rankings as the fourth and fifth-ranked players in the position. Holy Family’s Mazzulla (4th) led the state in receiving yards among all players listed as tight ends, with Gordon (5th) coming in seventh in the receiving yards category.
Tyler Tolbert Tyler Tolbert 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Cherry Creek | 2022 State CO and Mitchell Bigelow Mitchell Bigelow 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Valor Christian | 2022 State CO are two big additions to the defensive back category, both of whom found themselves on opposing sidelines during the 5A state championship game. Tolbert is a hard-hitting, turnover-forcing machine who played a significant role in Cherry Creek’s outstanding defensive performances, landing him in the ninth-ranked DB spot and a state champion. Bigelow was Valor Christian’s ball-hawking, lockdown cornerback who has claimed the sixth-ranked DB spot after being an invaluable contributor to a state championship contending defense.

The defensive line group got a massive amount of big-time additions throughout its ranks. Newcomers Marcus Howard Marcus Howard DL Aurora Central | 2022 State CO , Herschel Craig III Herschel Craig III DL Castle View | 2022 State CO , Andrew Nazarenus Andrew Nazarenus 6'6" | 240 lbs | DL Erie | 2022 State CO , and Reed Henkel Reed Henkel 6'1" | 220 lbs | DL Arvada West | 2022 State CO are four players who made the top 10 within the category. Craig III is the highly talented edge rusher for Castle View who landed the seventh-ranked spot within the defensive line group. Howard, another UNC commit, finished his senior year with Aurora Central as the eighth-ranked defensive lineman, racking up a total of 23 sacks on the season from his defensive end position. Nazarenus is one of Erie’s massive defensive linemen who earned himself the ninth-ranked DL spot and helped the Tigers reach the 4A state final game. Henkel’s senior performance as a standout member of a powerful Arvada West team landed him the 10th-ranked DL position.

Another position that saw an influx of new faces is the athlete group. Holy Family’s Jacob Lawver Jacob Lawver 5'10" | 185 lbs | ATH Holy Family | 2022 State CO is the fourth-ranked player in the position and the 39th overall. Miles Poole Miles Poole ATH Thornton | 2022 State CO , Thornton’s do-all linebacker and running back, made his debut onto the list as the 11th-ranked multi-position player. Legacy’s Mason Dickerson Mason Dickerson ATH Legacy | 2022 State CO snagged the 13th spot, while Denver North’s Jaydin Gonzales Jaydin Gonzales ATH Denver North | 2022 State CO earned the 17th-ranked spot within the group.
