The 3 losses they sustained all season included their week 1 loss against Walton, as they fell to them 34-28. Following this they lost to Lee 24-21, and then their last loss of the year was a big one. This loss came against the State Champion Collins Hill Eagles in the second round of the playoffs. Nevertheless, they had one of the more successful seasons in all of Georgia High School football, and they remained one of the most fun teams to watch all season long. Below, we will take some time to recognize the success of both sides of the ball, in one of the better seasons we have seen in a while.
Defensively, the Vikings could have done a bit better, as they gave up a total of 367 points. Even despite this, they found ways to outplay the opposing teams that they would face, especially with the performances of players they had at each level of the field. To start, they had 17 players record double digit tackle numbers, with Josh Picket breaking the 60 tackle mark, with 64 total tackles. Along with this, players such as DeAunte Hunter DeAunte Hunter 6'4" | 195 lbs | LB Lowndes | 2022 State GA , Mekhi Crawford, Cj Tomlin, Coleman Lewis, and Elijah Colvin all had big years with high tackle totals. In addition to this, the team as a whole recorded 25.5 total sacks. This largely belonged to W. Fulton, who had a stellar performance this season in this category, as he alone recorded 11.5 sacks. Other players, including the likes of Vernon Wright, and Jacob Adair recorded 1 or more sacks this season. Also, even though the defense allowed a good amount of points this season, they still managed to have success against the pass, as the team totaled 13 interceptions. In this category specifically, 3 players recorded 2 interceptions. These players were Hunter, Pickett, and Evans. Other than these players, 7 other defensive players recorded 1 interception as well.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Vikings continued to be led by Jacurri Brown Jacurri Brown 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Lowndes | 2022 State GA , who had another monster year for his team. When it was all said and done, he passed for over 2,160 yards, and 23 TD’s. With this, he also ran for over 880 yards, and 10 TD’s. Needless to say, he was a force to be reckoned with, and players on opposing defenses had more than a difficult time stopping him. The recipients of Brown’s passes largely included that of Chase Belcher, Khris Thomas, Justin Barron, and Tate Mcgee. In total, these players alone totaled for 19 TD receptions, and plenty of receiving yards. To be precise, Thomas leads the team in receiving yards with 818, while Belcher has also totaled 527 yards. What is also very impressive is the fact that while the Vikings had so much success in the air, they also were very versatile on the ground, as they put up over 2,450 yards. Leading the team on the ground was Brown, but Fleming also ran for 726 yards, while Belcher came close as well with 700 yards. This kind of balance made it very hard for opposing teams to slow the Vikings offense down, making it very difficult to overcome them.
