With back-and-forth drives in the 1st quarter that stalled out for each team, the GMSAA 6th grade team put together an 11-play drive lasting deep into the 2nd quarter, and down to the GFL 33-yard line. However, after a 10-yard run by #8 Jarvis Nance the drive ended with a fumble. Following the fumble recovery, the GFL team, starting from their own 35-yard line, rip off a series of runs to travel the length of the field for the score. This drive was highlighted by the 47-yard run from #64 Matthew Craft, Jr.
The GFL team lead 6-0 at the half, but that lead would be short-lived.
After the GFL team turned the ball over on downs on their opening possession of the 3rd quarter, GMSAA QB #1 CJ Cypher connected with #3 Madoxx Davis on three consecutive pass completions to drive the ball all the way to the GFL 10-yard line. The GMSAA boys capped the drive with a 10-yard TD run by #8 Jarvis Nance, who carried about 8 GFL defenders with him across the goal line tying the game 6-6.
Next, with the game tied 6-6, the GFL 6th grade team began to drive the ball deep into GMSAA territory when the Big DE #72 Kylen Pope drilled the GFL runningback causing a huge fumble; which Pope himself also recovered. Pope also finished the game with over 20+ tackles, including two QB sacks, as well as a fumble recovery, two batted passes and two QB sacks.
There was no looking back for the highly talented GMSAA 6th grade team.
QB CJ Cypher, who was just a little off in the first half, began to find his rhythm and moved the GMSAA team up and down the field. Again, Cypher connected with Madoxx Davis on a number of passes that ultimately culminated in another GMSAA TD. This time Madoxx Davis, in-between two defenders, went up and got the ball and took it for the TD.
With the GMSAA team-leading 12-6, QB CJ Cypher again hit #3, Madoxx Davis, for a 46-yard pass that set up a 25-yard TD run by #25 Isiah Nalls for the final blow. The GMSAA 6th grade team defeated the GFL 6th grade team 20-6, taking another step back towards that FBU National Championship.

South Georgia vs Northwest Florida 6th grade
The first-round elimination game matchup of the South Georgia 6th grade and the Northwest Florida 6th grade provided extensive lessons on perseverance and overcoming. Neither team scored in the 1st quarter. Yet, both teams pressed deep into their opponents’ red zone only to have their respective drives stall out by turning the ball over. Twice in the first quarter, each defense had consecutive stops on the 1 or 2-yard line.
Then, with 8:16 left in the 2nd quarter, QB #10 Dimitri Griffin hit #51, Camden Shirley, on a 51-yard TE screen TD pass. #6 Dwight Lewis, Jr. added the 2-point conversion run to make the score 8-0.
On the next possession, NW Florida QB #6 Aaron Muldowny was intercepted by South Georgia’s #20 Dylan Favors. Favors almost took it 66-yards for the pick 6 score, but the run was brought back for the penalty. But the South Georgia team also turned the ball over before reaching the endzone, giving NW Florida the ball again inside their own 5-yard line. After several runs for positive yards by both Muldowny and RB #28 Jacavir Lewis, Muldowny hit #4, Damylan Woodbury, for a 51-yard TD pass, and #28 Jacavir Lewis added the 2-point conversion to make the score even at 8-8.
Yet South Georgia would not be denied before the end of the half. QB #10 Dimitri Griffin blast off several passes that connected to their targets and moved the team down the field. Ultimately, Griffin was flushed out of the pocket and hit #3, Braxton Rein, for a 57-yard TD score with only 22-seconds remaining in the second quarter. With the failed conversion, South Georgia led at the half 14-8.
Following halftime, NW Florida RB #28 Jacavir Lewis began to put on a show of his ball running abilities. While both teams turned the ball over on downs in their first two possessions after halftime, it was Jacavir Lewis that kept his team in the hunt. Lewis carried the ball seven times in NW Florida’s first possession after halftime for a total of 66-yards, and he carried it another six times on Florida’s subsequent possession for over another 60-yards. But neither drive ended with a score.
As the clock ran down in the 3rd quarter, NW Florida RB #28 Jacavir Lewis broke loose on a 45-yard run and put his team inside the 5-yard line. However, after three stalemate runs, NW Florida turned the ball over following an incomplete pass. With South Georgia taking over the ball on their own 2-yard line, the South Georgia boys could not get the ball out with positive yardage and were forced to punt. Afterward, South Georgia executed a bad snap on the punt forcing the punter to try to get the ball out of the endzone and to avoid the safety. However, South Georgia could only get the ball to the 10-yard line and was short of the line of gain for a first down.
With the ball on the South Georgia 10-yard line, it only took NW Florida’s Jacavir Lewis two runs to get the ball in the endzone for the score. Lewis also added the 2-point conversion and gave NW Florida a lead of 16-14 with the game coming to a close.
South Georgia had four more possessions but could never score or move the ball with consistency in the closing moments. NW Florida took the win in the FBU Regional elimination game.
