Continue ReadingWith the first National Signing Day already come and gone, we will reflect on some of the early signees from the Sacramento area that inked to play football at the next level. Although there is still plenty of time until the second and final signing day for athletes, these prospects had their minds made up and a lot of them had been committed to their respective schools for quite a while.
OL CJ McMillan CJ McMillan 6'6" | 290 lbs | OL Capital Christian | 2022 State CA , Northern Arizona
McMillan is still a very untapped prospect that has a tremendous upside at the next level and someone who will be fun to watch for years to come. Physical at the POA, he has great feet and movement abilities while displaying a strong punch and aggression. Also able to consistently finish blocks and understanding pass pro angles and different pressures, NAU could have a potential All-Conference caliber kid on their hands with his athleticism and high ceiling.
EDGE Justin Eklund Justin Eklund 6'3" | 220 lbs | LB Folsom | 2022 State CA , San Jose State
SJSU is getting a relentless pass rusher off the edge that is very explosive and a natural bender that can get after the quarterback from different angles. Physical and tough with ideal size and strength, Eklund played for one of the nations top teams and should be a multi-year starter in the conference and a regular name to be heard on Saturdays.
LB Brandon Wong, Northern Arizona
Wong is a very athletic and explosive linebacker that had a fantastic Senior season. Able to play both inside and out while showing nice cover abilities, he is also a tremendous tackler and gets off blocks well. Wong fits very nicely in the Big Sky Conference and will only continue to grow and develop.
DB Amani Pressley Amani Pressley 6'1" | 175 lbs | DB Inderkum | 2022 State CA , Eastern Washington
Pressley adds some nice length to this class and is fluid in space while displaying loose hips in coverage, high point abilities and breaks well to ball carriers. He provides some nice upside at the next level and signed with one of the top teams at the FCS level.
DL Nilasoni Finau Nilasoni Finau 6'4" | 320 lbs | DL Elk Grove | 2022 State CA , Cal Poly
Finau has been a bit of an under-recruited kid but landed in a great spot. He plays with good leverage, heavy inside hands and is very explosive and physical at the POA. Moving well for his size and showing good strength in the lower body, he will be a dominant interior defender for the Mustangs.
OL Bryson Summers, Portland State
Summers is a very athletic lineman that can block in space and climb to the second level with ease. A natural bender, he is very athletic for the position and successful both in pass pro and in the run game. This is a nice get for Portland State as he was one of the best lineman across the SFL, which is one of the toughest all around leagues in Northern California.
DB Elias Mullican, Sacramento State
Mullican is a big time playmaker from his corner position with elite ball skills and return ability. Along with his cover abilities, he triggers quickly and is not afraid to come up and make tackles in traffic while doing a good job at attacking the ball in the air and jumping routes when needed.
DB Lamont Burrell, Sacramento State
Burrell is another long defender that the area had in the 2022 class, and was elite on both sides of the ball for a very well coached and explosive Sac High team in 2021. He displays nice long speed and tracking ability while able to play both press and off and should find himself on the field sooner rather than later on a top FCS team.
RB Zeke Burnett Zeke Burnett 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Elk Grove | 2022 State CA , Sacramento State
Burnett held multiple FBS offers but inked with the Hornets by the time it was all said and done. Over the past three years, he has been one of the most explosive and dominating runners across the Section and is an absolute steal for the Hornets. A very physical runner with elite contact balance and short area quickness with home run speed, he will be yet another Sacramento area prospect whose name we will be hearing on Saturdays.
