There was a clear candidate for MVP in Cashion’s state championship victory; senior wide receiver Mason Manning Mason Manning 5'11" | Wide Receiver Cashion | 2022 OK . What DIDN’T Manning do to help lead the Wildcats to back to back state championships? He was a major producer on offense, including catching the game-winning touchdown and was right there to swat down the Hail Mary attempt from Ringling on the final play of the game.
Manning was the second leading receiver on this Cashion offense coming into Saturday’s championship match up. Fellow senior Landon Lagasse Landon Lagasse 6'3" | 175 lbs | WR Cashion | 2022 OK had been the go-to target for the Wildcats and put up monster numbers this season. However with Ringling focusing on shutting down LaGasse, Cashion senior quarterback Ben Harman Ben Harman 6'1" | 165 lbs | QB Cashion | 2022 State OK looked elsewhere and it was Manning that stepped up with a monster game.
The senior finished with 14 receptions for 195 yards and two trips to the endzone. Including the most important score of the game, a catch in the corner of the end zone with only eight seconds on the clock. The 14 receptions is even more impressive when accounting that Harmon only completed 18 passes. Manning’s 195 receiving yards accounted for over half of Cashion’s 342 total yards of offense. And of course, he scored the only two offensive touchdowns.
But it wasn’t just the offensive side of the ball that made Manning’s night so special. He was among the team’s leaders with 11 totals, 2 of them being recorded as tackles for losses. The senior also had an important pass break up on the final play of the game.
This was an amazing capper to big time senior season for the Cashion Wildcat. He went over 100 receptions for the season, and an eye popping 1,800 yards. There were many amazing performances these past two weekends in Edmond, and Manning’s complete performance and clutch play was up there among the very best.
