Cardinal Gibbons v. Rolesville Defensive Highlights

I was on the sidelines for the Eastern Regional Championship Game between Cardinal Gibbons HS and Rolesville HS.  I observed Cardinal Gibbons high-powered offense control the game with the ground attack for the majority of the game.  The players’ listed performances were outstanding throughout the game. <strong>Carter Scearce, MLB, 5’11" 205, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Carter displayed good lateral movement and speed to cover ground quickly to make the stop.  He read the play and displayed good reaction to the ball carrier.  Carter Scearce had 5 total tackles for the game. <strong>Ethan Grace, DE, 6’2" 201, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Ethan displayed good speed in the open field closing quickly to make the stop.  He displayed quickness coming out of his stance and good use of hands to control blockers to stop the ball carrier.  Ethan Grace was the most dominant player on the defensive unit, finishing with 12 total tackles, 4 for losses. <strong>Joshua Stoneking, DT, 6’3" 227, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Joshua displayed good technique and use of hands to control blockers to make the stop.  He was quick out of his stance to move past blockers into the backfield.  Joshua kept constant pressure on the quarterback throughout the game.  Joshua Stoneking had 3 total tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss. <strong>Donovan Dozier, DE, 6’3" 215, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Donovan displayed quickness coming out of his stance and good use of hands to control blockers to stop the play.  He displayed good lateral movement and technique.  Donovan Dozier had 5 total tackles and 1 tackle for a loss. <strong>Will Mason, CB, 5’9" 175, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Will displayed good reaction to the ball and speed to close quickly on the ball carrier to make the stop.  He displayed good technique on the solo tackles.  Will Mason was very active throughout the game, finishing with 8 total tackles and 2 tackles for losses. <strong>Savoy New, LB, 5’11" 184, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Savoy displayed good reaction to the ball and speed while closing quickly on the ball carrier.  He displayed good technique and strength on solo tackles.  Savoy New played at a high-energy level throughout the game, finishing with 6 total tackles. <strong>Jackson Fortney, SS, 6’1" 187, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Jackson displayed good reaction to the ball and speed while closing quickly on the ball carrier.  He displayed good technique and strength on solo tackles.  Jackson Fortney played at a high-energy level throughout the game, finishing with 7 total tackles. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="141375" first="Jacorrey" last="Bible"], LB, 6’3" 190, Rolesville HS</strong>.  Jacorrey read the plays and reacted quickly to stop the ball carrier.  He displayed good lateral movement and speed to cover ground quickly.  [player_tooltip player_id="141375" first="Jacorrey" last="Bible"] is a very active player who made several solo tackles and assisted on several tackles. <strong>Carsten Casady, DE, 6’6" 270, Rolesville HS</strong>.  Carsten was quick out of his stance to make contact with blockers to stop the play.  He displayed good technique and strength to overpower blockers in the trenches.  Carsten Casady displayed good use of hands and technique throughout the game, applying pressure in the backfield. <strong>Sterling Elliot, MLB, 5’10" 200, Rolesville HS</strong>.  Sterling displayed good lateral movement and quickness to close on the ball carrier for the stop.  He displayed good reaction to the play and cover ground quickly.  Sterling Elliot played at a high-energy level and made several solo tackles. <strong>Ishawn Shoulars, DE, 6’2" 230, Rolesville HS</strong>.  Ishawn displayed good lateral movement and speed to close quickly on the ball carrier for the stop.  He displayed good technique and use of hands to control blockers to move past them into the backfield.  Ishawn Shoulars used his strength and quickness to overpower blockers making solo tackles and assisted on tackles. <strong>Reggie Love III, CB, 5’10" 160, Rolesville HS</strong>.  Reggie displayed good speed and ball-reaction to plays.  He closed quickly on the wide receivers to deflect passes and make stops.  Reggie Love III is a technique-sound defensive back who plays tough in man coverage. <strong>Aiden Pounds, LB, 5’9" 200, Rolesville HS</strong>.  Aiden displayed good lateral movement and speed to close quickly on the ball carrier.  He displayed good technique and use of hands on the tackles.  Aiden Pounds is a talented young player who is getting better as he gains valuable playing experience.
