Montgomery County was exciting to watch this year. There were many breakout candidates and players that continued their dominance. These were the top players in the county this season.
Quarterbacks
Kendell Anderson Kendell Anderson 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Blair | 2023 State MD (2023) | 6’3 QB | Blair
Anderson was the best quarterback in the county this season. He has a big arm and can make throws downfield. He is strong and is willing to stand in the pocket and take a hit. He is athletic and has the ability to get out of the pocket and make throws on the move. Blair’s offense was dynamic and Anderson was a big reason why.
Jaden Selby (2022) | 6’2 QB | Churchill
Selby is an extremely accurate quarterback. He has great touch on his throws downfield. He is slippery in the pocket and is tough to bring down. He is also a good runner and can make plays on designed quarterback runs. He had big expectations coming into the season and he seemed to have exceeded them.
Runningbacks
Dillon Dunathan Dillon Dunathan 6'2" | 230 lbs | LB Damascus | 2023 State MD (2023) | 6’2 RB | Damascus
Dunathan is a perfect back for Damascus’ power run system. He is a true power back. He runs through tackles. He is tough to bring down and keeps his feet moving. He loves to run defenders over. He is the most effective back in the county when running between the tackles.
Iverson Howard (2025) | 5’11 RB | Quince Orchard
Howard is an explosive back. He has great speed and is a big-play threat. He does a great job of navigating through traffic and getting to the second level. He is a very crafty ball carrier and has multiple moves to make people miss. Howard is only a freshman so expect him to develop into a very high-level player.
Wide Receivers
Daryl Harper (2022) | 6’2 WR | Northwest
Harper was one of the best receivers in the county. He has good speed and has the ability to just blow by defenders. He is also a good route runner so he does a great job of getting open. He has good hands and can make tough grabs. He is also very explosive after the catch and can make any catch a big play. Harper was special for Northwest this season.
Donovan Brown Donovan Brown 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Quince Orchard | 2022 State MD (2022) | 6’3 WR | Quince Orchard
Brown is a versatile receiver. He has the ability to line up both in the slot and outside. He can be a deep threat receiver that can make tough contested grabs. He can also line up in the slot and run shorter routes and make plays after the catch. He is very dangerous with the ball in his hands. He was a key weapon on a state championship-winning team.
Lucas Boiteux (2022) | 6’1 WR | Walter Johnson
Boiteux had a very impressive breakout season. He is a great receiver that always finds ways to get open deep. He is a solid route runner with solid hands. He is also deceivingly quick which gives defensive backs problems. He also does a great job running intermediate routes in the middle of the field. He had some very impressive performances against some very quality opposition.
Okeyo Ayungo (2022) | 6’0 WR | Rockville
Ayungo is a special talent. He does a great job of high pointing the ball and going up and getting it. He is a great ball carrier so he is a threat in the screen game. He also does a good job on deeper routes to find the open space and get open. He was a big part of Rockville’s offense and will be missed.
Offensive Line
Nathan Natoli (2022) | 6’4 T | Sherwood
Natoli is one of the top tackles in the state. He is strong in both pass protection and in the run game. In pass protection, he has great footwork. He also has good hands and gets inside position. In the run game, he uses his power and strength to overpower defenders and drive them back. Natoli is a dominant lineman and will be a big player at the next level.
Antonio Cruz (2022) | 6’2 T | Blair
Cruz has great size and he does a great job of using it. He is a physical tackle and likes to be violent. When he is run blocking he does a great job of finishing his blocks. In pass protection, he uses his strength to help keep the pocket clean. Cruz has quietly been one of the top linemen in the county during the last few years.
Shaun Lee (2022) | 6’1 G | Paint Branch
Lee was one of the biggest breakout players of the season. He proved he is one of the top linemen in the county. He can do it all, he is extremely mobile but he also excels when he is a traditional blocker. He does a great job of pulling and blocking defensive ends or getting to the second level. In run the run game he plays with great pad level and does a great job of moving his defenders to create a hole. In the passing game, he does a great job of staying in front of rushers. Lee will a fun player to watch develop at the next level.
Spencer Adams (2022) | 6’3 T | Northwest
Adams is a dominant lineman. He has been Northwest’s most consistent offensive lineman all year. He is a very intelligent blocker and always seems to pick up the right guy. He does a great job on double teams. He also does a great job of getting to the second level. He also is strong in pass protection as he has good footwork and hands. Adams was a big-time player and gave many defenders nightmares.
Zachary Anderson Zachary Anderson 6'1" | 280 lbs | OL Quince Orchard | 2023 State MD (2023) | 6’2 T | Quince Orchard
Anderson is a versatile lineman that can play all 5 positions on the offensive line. He does a great job of driving defenders back and finishing off his blocks. He is also mobile enough to pull and get to the second level. He is one of the top-run blockers in the county and will have a big year next year.
Athletes
Octavian Smith Octavian Smith 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Paint Branch | 2022 State MD (2022) | 6’1 QB | Paint Branch
Smith is in the running for best player in the county. He was one of the best and most explosive players in the county. He has great speed and is very elusive. He also has a big arm and is able to throw the ball downfield. He was special. He just de-committed from Northwestern so keep an eye out on him.
Marcus Pedone (2022) | 5’7 WR | Richard Montgomery
Pedone was Richard Montgomery’s best receiver and also their best ball carrier. He is also their return man. With the ball in his hands, he breaks tackles and makes guys miss in open space. He is also a good route runner and is able to get open. Pedone has been a big player for Richard Montgomery’s program and they will miss him.
