Tonight is the Class 6A-1 State Championship game, between 6A-2 power Bixby and the underdogs, Edmond Deer Creek. Let’s take a look at some interesting stats and numbers to know about each program.
1,196 – Days Since Bixby’s Last Loss
Bixby hasn’t lost a game since August 24, 2018 when they dropped their season opener at home against Jenks, losing 28-14. The Spartans have been dominant since then with their record tying winning streak that they bring into the title game tonight.
99 – Touchdowns Scored By Braylin Presley Braylin Presley 5'9" | RB Bixby | 2022 State OK
The reigning Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player of the Year has been one of the most dynamic players in the state for his entire career. He hit the ground running as a freshman, only gained speed throughout the following seasons. Now with one game left in his prep career, the future Oklahoma State Cowboy is only one touchdown away from the century mark. Odds are that Presley will find the endzone in the final game of his illustrious high school career.
50.1 – Average Margin Of Victory By Bixby This Year
The Spartans are averaging a little more than 60 points per game, while giving up just over 10 points per game. It’s an eye popping number as they average wins by 50.1 points. It should also be noted that a decent amount of the points scored on Bixby were done in the second half of blowouts where Bixby’s starters were out of the game.
48 – Bixby’s Winning Streak
With their semifinal win over Stillwater, not only did Bixby punch their ticket to their eight consecutive state championship game, they also put their name in the record book. They tied Wagoner’s 48 game winning streak that the Bulldogs set from 2014-2017. With a win, they’ll set the record for longest streak by an 11 man program. They would also become the first 11-man team to go unbeaten in three consecutive seasons.
10.2 – Miles From Deer Creek To UCO
The Antlers enter the state championship game as the underdog but they benefit from playing this title game in their own backyard. UCO’s stadium is a short 10.2 miles away from the Deer Creek campus, and the Antlers should have a good amount of fans in the stands for their first state title game since 2000. Back then, Deer Creek was competing in Class 3A, which speaks to how much the program has grown as they chase their first 6A-1 state title.
8 – Bixby’s 8th Consecutive Stare Championship Game
48 wins isn’t the only streak the Spartans have going right now. Thursday will be the eighth consecutive state championship game appearance for the Spartans. Only one other program has made eight straight title game trips in Oklahoma, and no 11-man program has ever accomplished it. To go along with being 11-man program trailblazers, Bixby has now played in every 6A-2 state championship game since it was created in 2014. A win tonight would be their fourth straight title and seventh in the last eight years.
4 – Games Decided By 7 Points Or Less For Deer Creek
Deer Creek entered the state championship game with a 10-2 record by the Antlers have been cardiac kids this season. Those two losses came in overtime periods with their first loss coming to Stillwater in double overtime, while the second came to eventual district champion Del City in one overtime. The Antlers have continued that throughout the playoffs as they went on the road to upset Choctaw and then beat Sand Springs with those game decided by 7 and 3 points, respectively.
3 – Interceptions Thrown By Brett Pense Brett Pense 6'2" | QB Deer Creek | 2022 State OK
Deer Creek senior quarterback Brett Pense Brett Pense 6'2" | QB Deer Creek | 2022 State OK has been one of the most improved players this season. The signal caller has thrown for nearly 30 touchdowns with only 3 interceptions, giving him an amazing TD-INT ratio. The Antlers will need to take care of the ball tonight if they’re able to pull off the win against Bixby, which is what Pense has done this season. This will be the toughest opponent he’s faced all year, but Pense’ production this year indicates he’ll be ready for the big stage.
2 – Positions Played By All State Lineman Jacob Sexton Jacob Sexton 6'6" | OL Deer Creek | 2022 State OK
Deer Creek senior and Oklahoma commit Jacob Sexton Jacob Sexton 6'6" | OL Deer Creek | 2022 State OK has been one of the most dominant offensive lineman prospects in Oklahoma over recent seasons. However, Sexton has also played on the defensive side of the ball this season as a defensive tackle at this time. And the snaps on the defensive side of the ball have only increased with the Antlers in the playoffs. The future Sooner is taking that physicality and skill that we’ve seen on offense to the defensive side of the ball, and now he’s terrorizing quarterbacks in addition to protecting his.
