Even with the crazy obstacles facing the coaches and players, the PSAL showcased some of New York state’s best football. Erasmus Hall proved why they are one of the most if not the most talented teams in the state, defeating a dangerous Curtis squad in the City Conference Championship game. Canarsie is right there with these two teams on the talent scale as they also have multiple division one prospects. Let’s move on to some of the star power from the conference.
Moses Walker Moses Walker 6'2" | 220 lbs | LB Erasmus Hall | 2022 State NY LB – Erasmus Hall
The Rutgers commit proved why he has some of the countries top programs after him. Walker has an impressive frame in the 6’2 220 range; he already looks like a top collegiate backer. He checks all the boxes; he shows elite instincts and athleticism and punishes anyone he contacts.
Osahon Noruwa Osahon Noruwa 6'4" | 235 lbs | DL Curtis | 2022 State NY DE – Curtis
Osahon is the prototypical freak edge player. He gets off the ball fast and knows how to work for his hands-on opposing linemen. You can tell he works his craft because he shows a diverse skill set when setting up tackles.
Tayvon Nelson Tayvon Nelson 6'2" | 190 lbs | DB Canarsie | 2023 State NY DB – Canarsie
Nelson is a lockdown corner, simply put. He has some big-time schools already trying to secure his commitment, including Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Penn State, among many others. But he can come up and press and makes plays going off and just playing the ball. I expect him to be one of the top prospects in New York next season for our rankings.
Justin Garcia Justin Garcia 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Curtis | 2022 State NY LB – Curtis
The 6’1 linebacker was a machine for Curtis in 2021, posting big hits all over the field. Garcia has tremendous instincts and is always around the ball. I was impressed with his diversity as a linebacker as he showed he could come off the edge drop by back in coverage and close open doors fast against the run.
Jorel Liverpool Jorel Liverpool 6'6" | 220 lbs | DL Midwood | 2022 State NY DE – Midwood
Jorel showed why schools are starting to pay attention to him. He has a long 6’6 frame and shows massive potential coming off the edge where his athleticism shines. During the season, he tracked plays on the perimeter and was able to cause havoc for opposing offenses. Recently Wagner offered Jorel, and I expect him to pick up a couple more division one offers.
Jalil Smith Jalil Smith 6'5" | 230 lbs | DL Lincoln | 2023 State NY DE – Lincoln
Jalil is another athletic DE with all the traits that make division one programs call. He was offered by Syracuse earlier in the year. He has an excellent 6’4 frame and is quickly coming off the line. Smith was almost impossible to block in one on one situations. I expect a big senior season coming up.
Caden Brown Caden Brown 6'4" | 215 lbs | LB Erasmus Hall | 2024 State NY DE – Erasmus Hall
The sophomore DE was a vital member of the championship Erasmus Hall squad. He already looks the part, and his talent is scary considering he still has two more seasons coming up. Brown has a tremendous short-yard burst and can bend the edge. I expect some of college football’s big names to offer Brown soon. He has all the tools.
