For many, it was a formality – while for others it was a struggle they were not prepared for.
The end of the regular season – where many programs put the shoulder pads to the left and helmets to the right – while others have survived the regular season and embrace the playoffs, which get started this week across the Sunshine State.
But before we move on, let us all look back to this past week, where plenty was at stake in the final week – and the player performances were off the charts.
While rain and a final week bye dotted the abbreviated schedule, there were some quality performances:
TURNING THE PAGE ON THE REGULAR SEASON
Venice QB Ryan Browne threw 3 touchdown passes and ran for a 52-yard score in the first half as the Indians went on to the 60-7 win over North Fort Myers.
Caleb Williams picked off a pass on the second play of the second half and returned it for a score in Tampa Jesuit’s 22nd straight victory over Tampa Catholic, 42-0. Standout linebacker Troy Bowles Troy Bowles 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB Tampa Jesuit | 2023 State FL returned a blocked punt for a score for the unbeaten and No. 1 seed Tigers.
Ethan Price and Hayden Guy hooked up twice as Mitchell (Trinity) jumps into the playoffs with a convincing win against Wesley Chapel.
Running back Efrem Only (150 yards and a score) and quarterback Aidan MacLean (170 yards and a score) sparked district champion Clearwater over Boca Ciega.
Newsome’s J.C. Roque scored a touchdown on a ground and through the air in a 22-13 win over Armwood.
University of Pittsburgh commit Jordaan Bailey Jordaan Bailey RB Tampa Hillsborough | 2022 FL was all over the field in Tampa Hillsborough’s 28-6 win over Bloomingdale. From quarterback to running back, receiver and kick returner, he amassed 169 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Mark-Howard Wilder II had 11 carries for 116 yards and a score in Doral Academy’s 17-7 win over Delray Beach Atlantic.
Class of 2023 standout Manny Covey Manny Covey 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Starke Bradford County | 2023 State FL had five carries for 109 yards in two scores as Starke Bradford County heads into the playoffs.
Gavin Peacock from Lake Worth Park Vista finished with 11 tackles, five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in a win against Palm Beach Gardens.
Parkland Douglas versatile standout Chris “Bird” Cepeda came up with a game-winning 103 yard interception return for a score.
Class of 2026 RB Javian Mallory from Fort Lauderdale Westminster Academy ran for 221 yards and 4 touchdowns – also adding 5 tackles. QB Anthony Barbar had 14 completions for 206 yards and 3 scores.
Senior linebacker Thomas Anderson intercepted a pass in the final seconds to help Orlando Edgewater defeat longtime rival Boone for the fourth consecutive year in the annual “Battle for the Barrel” rivalry game. Cedric “CJ” Baxter carried the ball 33 times for a game-high 256 yards and 2 TDs.
Keyondray Jones had 108 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries to lead Apopka over rival Wekiva for the Mayor’s Cup. Zeldrick Roberts also had two rushing touchdowns and Quincy Frazier Quincy Frazier 6'2" | 220 lbs | RB Apopka | 2022 FL added one. Andrew Kennedy opened the scoring with a 28-yard field goal for Apopka.
Lake Mary and QB Gunnar Smith Gunnar Smith 6'4" | 185 lbs | QB Lake Mary | 2022 FL beat Deltona 35-8 as he set the Seminole County record for career TD passes (81). He threw for four TDs — all in the first half — on Friday night.
Oviedo, with DJ Scott carrying 15 times for 159 yards, three TDs and a two-point conversion, beat Lyman.
Orlando Lake Nona (7-3) was sparked by Zane Durant Zane Durant 6'1" | 240 lbs | DL Orlando Lake Nona | 2022 State FL and Daniel Cevallos, who both ran for two TDs, and QB Andres Cevallos was on the receiving end of a TD pass by Khari Renne.
Orlando University junior running back Dashion Douglas scored six touchdowns as the Cougars closed their season with a 61-0 home win over first-year Lake Buena Vista.
Celebration running back Oniel Senatus ran for three touchdowns in a 35-21 home win. Senatus, a junior, had 25 touchdowns for the season. Celebration’s other TD came on a Dylan Davis pass to Flynn Burgess.
Groveland South Lake’s Jahnear Allen scored on runs of 65, 45, 20 and 10 yards as the season came to an end on a high note.
Zamarion Smith, one of the top track stars in the Big Bend region, scored three times as Crawfordville Wakulla got by Tallahassee Chiles. Xavier Blake Xavier Blake 5'8" | 165 lbs | RB Crawfordville Wakulla | 2023 FL and Haden Klees contributed to the 42-7 win.
Jaohn Jackson scored twice, including the game winner as 1A Madison County beat 6A Tallahassee Rickards, 14-13.
O.J. Ross O.J. Ross 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR Cocoa | 2022 State FL , Davin Wydner and Donte Cook provided the offense as Cocoa captured the annual BBQ Bowl, 14-7,
Jackson Oldham rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns as Daytona Beach Father Lopez stunned Melbourne Holy Trinity.
Marquish Seabon ran for 222 yards and 5 scores as Lake Wales rolled past Gateway. He has over 1,700 yards so far this season.
Davie Western QB Collin Hurst Collin Hurst 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Davie Western | 2023 FL and WR Jullian Lewis Jullian Lewis 6'1" | 210 lbs | WR Davie Western | 2022 State FL put on a show – and the defense once again stood tall in a regular season ending win against Miramar.
Miami Gulliver Prep junior WR Jalen Brown Jalen Brown 6'1" | 170 lbs | WR Miami Gulliver | 2023 State FL had 6 receptions for 138 yards and 2 scores in a win at Orlando Bishop Moore.
