Verdugo Hills dominated North Hollywood in a City Section matchup last week. Dons’ sophomore Ben Emery had the best game of his career with five receptions for 197 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Emery and Verdugo Hills will host Marquez in the first round of the City Section Division 2 playoffs.

Drew Faulkner, Western, 2023
Western dominated its Orange League competition as expected and multiple playmakers got to have big games for the Pioneers during that stretch. Faulkner had a dominant night against Magnolia (Anaheim) last week, catching eight passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Western now starts playoff play and has a tougher road ahead of them, starting against Lompoc.

Carlos Hernandez, Monrovia, 2023
Monrovia has one of the best passing attacks in Southern California and has flied under the radar a little bit. Hernandez shined in Monrovia’s blowout win over South Pasadena last week. The junior caught seven passes for 211 yards and four touchdowns in the win. He is one of the top receivers in the Southern Section in yards with 1,523 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Gabriel Nunez, Beaumont, 2022
Beaumont fell behind early against Citrus Valley but battled its way back into the game using the passing game. Nunez had video game type stats with 25 receptions for 250 yards and a touchdown. To be targeted 25 times per game is unreal let alone coming down with 25 receptions. A lot of players won’t get that many targets over the entire course of league play.
Beaumont’s official stats has Gabriel Nunez with 25 catches in Friday’s game. That is the 4th most in state history, according to @CalHiSports record book.
Nunez up to 118 catches on the season, which breaks previous Inland record of 111 by San Gorgonio’s Jaylen Matthews (2018).

Kian Salehi, Campbell Hall, 2023
Salehi impacted the game multiple ways when Campbell Hall beat Brentwood 61-21. The junior caught four passes for 102 yards and three touchdowns for the Vikings. He also ran for a 23-yard touchdown and had an interception on defense. He fell just short of 1,000 yards receiving on the season and had 13 touchdowns. Campbell Hall finished the season undefeated and will host Santa Barbara in the first round of the Southern Section Division 6 playoffs.
