That being said, each of these players has already been in these kinds of scenarios. They will just have to learn from past experiences to help their teams get the win. Keep an eye on these athletes this Thanksgiving weekend.
1. Bo Edmundson Bo Edmundson 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Lake Travis | 2023 State TX (JR-QB) – Lake Travis High School (Austin, TX)
2021 Season: 2,409 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, 8 interceptions
Lake Travis has been steamrolling through the early rounds of the playoffs and that is in large part thanks to Edmundson. In the past two games, Edmundson has thrown for eight touchdowns and over 500 yards. None of the defenses so far have been able to stop him. Although, Lake Travis does square off against United South at 2 p.m. on Friday, and the Cavaliers will have to keep their hot streak going to get a chance at the title.
2. Caleb Burton Caleb Burton 6'0" | 165 lbs | WR Del Valle | 2022 State TX (SR-WR) – Lake Travis High School (Austin, TX)
2021 Season: 36 receptions, 643 receiving yards, 14 receiving touchdowns
On the receiving end, Burton has been electric and as close to perfect as a receiver can get. The Panthers have allowed little to no points in the past couple of playoff games, so Burton and Edmundson will have to continue their dynamic duo connection to score often. Since Burton has been playing lights out, showcasing his ability to score and catch in tight spots, Lake Travis should have no issue scoring.
3. Ashton DuBose Ashton DuBose 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB William J. Brennan | 2023 State TX (JR-QB) – Brennan High School (San Antonio, TX)
2021 Season: 1,805 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns, 1 interception, 434 rushing yards, 7 rushing touchdowns
The undefeated Brennan Bears will face off against a tough opponent in the Bowie Bulldogs. That being said, Brennan’s quarterback DuBose has also been playing lights out. The difference is, DuBose has also been tearing up the field on the ground, especially in scoring position. Although, he has also made few mistakes when passing with just one interception all season. If Bowie hopes to win, the Bulldogs will have to cause turnovers.
4. Noah Camacho (SR-RB) – Bowie High School (Austin, TX)
2021 Season: 1,358 rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns
For the Bulldogs, their main threat is Camacho on the ground. He too has been tearing up the field and defenses have not been very successful in stopping him. For Brennan to continue its undefeated season, the Bears will have to stop the Bowie rushing attack, but not leave themselves too open for deep passes. If not, Camacho will be a hard athlete to stop as he is already difficult to pin down or tackle, given his great field awareness and speed.
5. Cade Klubnik Cade Klubnik 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Austin Westlake | 2022 State TX (SR-QB) – Westlake High School (Austin, TX)
2021 Season: 2,233 passing yards, 29 passing touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 355 rushing yards, 11 rushing touchdowns
Klubnik has shot out like a cannon after his injury. Now, he and the undefeated Westlake Chaparrals will face Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North (PSJAN). Not an easy task, given that the Raiders have also mowed through the playoffs as well. Klubnik has made very few mistakes, and all he will need to do is keep playing like he has been all season and Westlake should get the win.
6. Jaden Greathouse Jaden Greathouse 6'2" | 210 lbs | WR Austin Westlake | 2023 State TX (JR-WR) – Westlake High School (Austin, TX)
2021 Season: 45 receptions, 791 receiving yards, 13 receiving touchdowns
Greathouse has been Klubnik’s favorite target all season, and it has resulted in a lot of success. Combined with his great speed and agility, Greathouse has shown more often than not how he can catch in traffic with no problem. This has led to the large amounts of touchdowns he has scored. With the duo of Greathouse and Klubnik, any team facing Westlake will have its hands full.
7. Brayden Buchanan (JR-QB) – Vandegrift High School (Austin, TX)
2021 Season: 2,627 passing yards, 37 passing touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 7 rushing touchdowns
Vandegrift faces no easy challenge when facing the undefeated Vela. However, Buchanan has played a fantastic season and arguably one of the best in Central Texas. That being said, he will have to play lights out for Vandegrift to get the win. Although, Buchanan has plenty of targets, including arguably the best wide receiver in Central Texas, Beauchamp. With that, and Buchanan’s ability to throw deep and accurate passes, the Vipers do have a great chance to give Vela its first loss.
8. Reece Beauchamp (SR-WR) – Vandegrift High School (Austin, TX)
2021 Season: 50 receptions, 966 receiving yards, 15 receiving touchdowns
For Beauchamp, he and Buchanan will need to connect as they have been all season. This has been one of Vandegrift’s strongest points. Still, Vela will not make it easy, but Beauchamp has found plenty of success in tight coverage with athletic defensive backs. Even then, he has managed to catch a lot of balls in traffic, and no one can catch him if he starts running downfield.
