There were a ton of great games in the area, but the game I decided to go to was The Lamar Texans (7-3) vs The Cy-Fair Bobcats (8-3). Both teams were evenly matched the whole game. Both teams also had amazing defenses making stop after stop resulting in a low scoring game. In the end The Cy-Fair Bobcats were able to get over The Lamar Texans by kicking three field goals which won them the game with a close score of 16-14. Although, The Lamar Texans lost I do think they had the better standouts on defense. I’ll be discussing The Lamar Texans defense standouts.
#90 Corby Martinez DE, OLB Sr 6’3 225 lbs
The Lamar Texans had a strong defense and it started upfront with senior #90 Corey Martinez. Corby is a quick and aggressive defensive end. Corby was fast off the ball Cy-Fair had a solid offensive line hard to get through. However, Corey was able to get around the offensive tackle and get into the backfield even managing to cause a fumble and getting a sack. It is unfortunate that Corby’s high school football career is now over hopefully he can continue to showcase his skills in college.
#41 John Morstead LB Sr 6’1 225 lbs
The defensive linebacker to watch out for on The Lamar Texans is senior #41 John Morstead. John is an aggressive linebacker that focused primarily on blitzing. John was big and fast he was able to apply a lot of pressure on Cy-Fair’s offense. John was able to stop a good amount of run plays and managed to get into the backfield to get a sack as well. It is unfortunate that John’s high school football career is now over hopefully he can continue to showcase his skills in college.
#4 Kobe Jones DB, WR Sr 6’2 205 lbs and #5 Jaivion L Green DB Sr 6’3 195 lbs
These two defensive backs is the definition of an athlete. Seniors #4 Kobe Jones and #5 Jaivion L Green both had high intensity and high energy all night long. Kobe and Jaivion are both incredibly quick and fast they provided great coverage and didn’t allow a lot passes to come through. On one play Cy-Fair quarterback was overwhelmed because of the defensive line and linebacker and made him throw a bad pass #4 dive for the pass it went up into #5 hands for an interception. It was a great play to watch unfold. It is unfortunate that both Kobe and Jaivion’s high school football career is now over hopefully they can both continues to showcase his skills in college.
#9 Marcus Plumber DB, S Sr 5’8 155 lbs
Senior #9 Marcus Plumber is a special defensive player that can play two different positions on defense. Marcus can play both defensive back and safety. Marcus as a defensive back properly did his job and didn’t leave rarely any separation between him and his man. As a safety Marcus covered his zone and pursued wherever the ball went. Marcus at times was able to anticipate or read Cy-Fair’s offense to see where the ball was going. It is unfortunate that Marcus’ high school football career is now over hopefully he can continue to showcase his skills in college.
