Here’s a look at the 8th Grade Division 1 winners, my two cents on their ability and film where applicable. For reference, Division 1 means the schools have the most boys in their student population.
Region 1 – Brayden Lightfoot | Athlete | Warren East
Pops’ Two Cents: Promising young player who comes from a very athletic family. Speedster who is also a track kid that shines in the 4×100 relay for the Warren East Middle School Raiders. Helped lead WEMS to the quarterfinals in region one. Special player maker on both sides of the ball—a little more advanced defensively right now.
Film:
Region 2 – Luke Tompkins | Athlete | North Oldham
Pops’ Two Cents: Do it all athlete for the North Oldham. Spent majority of the season at running back but also lined up as a quarterback occasionally to make sure best athlete on the team had ball in his hands. Not the biggest at just 5-foot-8 and 140 pounds but has 4.8 forty speed to make up for it.
Film:
Region 3 – Jeremiah Clark | Quarterback | Royal Spring
Pops’ Two Cents: There is no question he was THE guy on a Royal Spring team that reached the semi-finals this year. Widely considered to be the best middle school to come out of Scott County in many, many years. Fast, explosive kid who also excels in track. Also won award as a 7th grader.

Region 4 – Mason Griffin Mason Griffin 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB South Laurel | 2026 State KY | Quarterback | South Laurel
Pops’ Two Cents: Arguably has the strongest and most accurate arm in the Blue Grass State for the class of 2026. Good size at 6-foot, 160-pounds and can make all the throws you need him too. Racked up 1,404 yards and 16 TD’s through the air in addition to five more on the ground. Checks all the boxes.
