This is going to run through 8A-1A football and showcase one player per team that, if having a good game, gives their team a good chance of winning. With that being said, let’s dive into it.
Bishop McNamara @ Willmington
Colton Provost Colton Provost 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Bishop McNamara | 2022 State IL 5’10 165 22′ WR Twitter
Mr. Provost is quick off the line of scrimmage and stacks the defender to break him off at the top of the route creating separation. He goes up for 50/50 balls where he high points the ball to come down with the contested catch downfield for a big gain on the play. This young man gets upfield quickly once he secures the catch and can take the top off of the opposing defense. With the main focus being on stopping Bishop McNamara’s powerful backfield duo it’ll give this young man opportunities one on one downfield. Junior Season Highlights
Allan Richards Allan Richards 6'3" | 210 lbs | LB Wilmington | 2022 State IL 6’3 210 22′ LB Twitter
Mr. Richards fills holes in run support where he can either meet the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage or shoot the gap getting into the backfield for a TFL. He isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder to deliver the heavy hit on the ball carrier and flows to the ball. This run stopper is going to be a focal point in stopping BM backfield duo. He’s also their Kicker that can hit from 25+ yards out. Regular Season Highlights
Farmington @ Tri-Valley
Kevin Shultz 5’11 175 22′ RB
Mr. Schultz is an N/S runner that lowers his shoulder when getting through the line of scrimmage anticipating contact. When doing so, he bounces off arm tackles getting into the endzone by following his blocks and keeping his feet driving. If he doesn’t have the ball, he’s used as a lead blocker on jet sweeps where he crack blocks the outside linebacker and works up to the safety. He also plays linebacker where he fills holes in run support and gets pressure on the quarterback. Tremont High School Highlights
Andrew Petrilli Andrew Petrilli 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Tri Valley | 2022 State IL 5’10 175 22′ QB Twitter
Mr. Petrilli can make something out of nothing, he can pull the ball down to scramble where he’ll weave in and out of defenders to get a 1st down on the play. He runs quarterback design runs where he follows his blocks to get into the endzone and can get the ball off under pressure finding his man downfield for the completion. Junior Season Highlights
Mater Dei @ St. Teresa
Trey Gerdes Trey Gerdes 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Mater Dei | 2022 State IL 6’0 170 22′ DB Twitter
Mr. Gerdes gets off of blocks to make the tackle as the play is coming his way. He isn’t afraid to make open-field tackles, when doing so he squares up to the ball carrier before securing the tackle. In pass coverage, he undercuts the route resulting in PBUs and has a fluid flip of the hips to stay with his man in coverage downfield. Quincy Notre Dame Game Highlights
Brycen Hendrix 23′ DB
Mr. Hendrix undercuts routes for INTs, once he secures the interception he changes his gears quickly to either get into the endzone or gain extra yards. Once he diagnoses the play as a pass going towards an underneath route he gets off his man and heads towards the ball carrier about to catch the ball to deliver a hard hit by lowering his shoulder resulting in a PBU. He gets hands-on when pressing and can shed the block to get pressure on the quarterback. This young man also gets it done on offense from the slot where he makes contested catches by high pointing the ball and runs jet sweeps further showcasing his ability to change gears quickly. Mid-Season Highlights
Pana @ Nashville
Max Lynch 5’11 160 23′ QB
Mr. Lynch doesn’t have any film I could find through Hudl – possibly private highlights from being in the Playoffs. With that being said, upon looking at his stats through MaxPreps he’s accumulated over 1,400 passing yards and 1,200 rushing yards for 37 TDs. If correct, that alone makes this young man someone to keep an eye on being able to put up those numbers.
Isaac Turner Isaac Turner 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Nashville | 2022 State IL 6’2 175 22′ WR Twitter
Mr. Turner is quick off the line of scrimmage where he can either win over the top of the defense or find the soft spot in the defense. Upon securing the catch, he gets upfield quickly as he gets into the endzone. He can break the defender off at the top of the route creating separation and can make the first defender miss in open space. Junior Season Highlights
