The Class 6A-D2 state championship is set for 7PM on December 2nd at UCO. Three-time defending champion Bixby is once again back in the title game and looking to make all sorts of history. And on the other side you have Deer Creek that has made a somewhat unexpected run to the title game and will look to take down the giant Spartans. Prep Redzone Oklahoma will have the most in-depth championship preview and state title game content that you will find anywhere! In this post, we take a look at the players you need to know about for Deer Creek as they head into the title game, looking to take down the Spartans.
Berkley Dalton – 2023 Wide Receiver
The future is bright for Deer Creek in terms of skill players as they have a few players at running back and wide receiver that are juniors and are in the middle of breakout seasons. The first is Berkley Dalton, a junior wide receiver who has become one of the main targets for quarterback Brett Pense Brett Pense 6'2" | QB Deer Creek | 2022 State OK in this Deer Creek offense. He has 31 catches on the season for over 400 yards and six touchdowns. But when you look at the stats, you can see that Pense distributes the ball incredibly well and Dalton isn’t the only weapon at wide receiver.
Brett Pense Brett Pense 6'2" | QB Deer Creek | 2022 State OK – 2022 Quarterback
One of the most improved quarterbacks in Oklahoma this season has been Deer Creek senior quarterback Brett Pense Brett Pense 6'2" | QB Deer Creek | 2022 State OK . The Deer Creek standout went from being a decent quarterback to one of the better QB’s in this senior class. Now, he’s allegedly going to be playing baseball at the next level as a UCO baseball commit but he could play football as well. Pense has thrown for nearly 30 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions this season and he’s also proven that he can be clutch down the stretch to help win games for his team.
Denver Hanna – 2022 Defensive Lineman
On the defensive side of the ball, Denver Hanna has been an absolute game changer at the defensive line position. Hanna is a wrecking ball along the defensive line for Deer Creek and it shows with his performance this season. He leads the team in sacks and tackles for loss and is one of the leading tacklers on the team as well. That kind of versatility and game-changing ability will certainly be needed going up against a Bixby offense that has averaged north of 60 points per game this season.
Deontaye Wilson – 2023 Running Back
Anytime you make a run to the state championship, you’re bound to have a combination of experienced players and then some breakout stars. Even Bixby has a few players who are enjoying breakout seasons. For Deer Creek, it’s hard to argue anyone other than junior running back Deontaye Wilson as that guy for the Antlers this season. While Pense has put up some strong numbers in the passing game, it’s been Wilson as the primary running back that has kept Deer Creek incredibly balanced as an offense. It also helps when you have the O-line that Wilson and the Antlers have.
Jacob Sexton Jacob Sexton 6'6" | OL Deer Creek | 2022 State OK – 2022 Offensive Lineman
Our final player to watch for Deer Creek is the biggest name you need to know about. It’s Deer Creek big man Jacob Sexton Jacob Sexton 6'6" | OL Deer Creek | 2022 State OK , one of the best offensive lineman prospects in the country in Oklahoma’s 2022 class. Sexton has been a dominant offensive tackle for years and is the anchor to a really strong offensive line. What’s scary is now he’s playing more on the defensive side of the ball as a defensive tackle. At his size and abilities with his hands, he’s going to be tough to stop for the Bixby linemen trying to keep him out of the backfield.
