Class of 2023: Top Running Backs To Know
In this article:
We are looking deeper into who has emerged as a top running talent for the 2023 class in this article. These athletes will be expected to take their respective teams on their shoulders next year and carry the load for the offense.
Teshaun Porter | Omaha North | 5’11″ 200lbs
Teshaun is an explosive back who can make a curtain call anytime he touches the ball. For 2021 so far, he has 1528 yds with 18 tds which is an average of 138.9 yds and just under 2tds a game. During the playoffs against two quality defensive teams, he has amassed 253 yds and 6tds. He is a hard runner who hits his holes quick with a strong burst. With some key losses on Omaha North’s offense this offseason, Teshaun will be expected to be a leader for this offense next year.
Carlos Collazo Carlos Collazo 5'9" | 200 lbs | RB Aurora | 2023 State NE | Aurora | 5’9″ 200lbs
Carlos has proven to be a versatile back who has help lead Aurora into the Semi Finals this year. He averages just under 8 yds a carry this year, racking up 1238 yds and 20 tds. He is tough to tackle and has good field awareness. He has shown to be a decent receiver out of the backfield as well with 173 yds receiving and 5 tds. Carlos brings a solid ground attack to Aurora’s offense and will look to lead them to another playoff in 2022.
Cole Ballard Cole Ballard 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Elkhorn South | 2023 State NE | Elkhorn South | 6’0″ 185lbs
Cole is an excellent downhill runner with breakaway speed. He has been clocked as quick as 4.6 seconds on his 40 yd dash. In 2021, Cole ran for 1208 yds and 23 tds, 120.8 yds and 2.3 tds per game. His field vision has shown to be above average and he is hard to catch when he gets to the second level. Already leaned on heavily this year in their offensive game plan, there is no doubt he will be a top running back next year.

CharMar Brown CharMar Brown 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Creighton Prep | 2023 State NE | Creighton Prep | 5’11″ 205lbs
Out of all the running backs on the list, Charmar is the grinder. He runs hard and is a touch back to bring down with a good amount of yards after first contact. Charmar averaged 118.6 yds and 1.5 tds per game. He ended with 1067 rushing yards and 15 tds in 9 games. With Jack Stessman Jack Stessman 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Creighton Prep | 2022 State NE leaving, Charmar maybe more of a feature back and has the potential to have a huge year in the Creighton Prep offense.
Brock Roblee Brock Roblee 5'11" | 180 lbs | RB North Platte | 2023 State NE | North Platte| 5’10″ 180lbs
Brock really showed some promised in the three headed attack on the ground North Platte had, with Genatone and Tilford. He is a tough runner who could really eat up yards and was tough to tackle. He rolled to 1119 yds and 10 tds while sharing backfield responsibilites. With the loss of Genatone, there will be one less person to take carries and I expect Brock to get a decent workload and have a big year!
Sleeper:
J’Dyn Bullion J’Dyn Bullion 6'0" | 245 lbs | LB Bellevue West | 2023 State NE | Omaha Central | 6’1″ 260lbs
J’dyn is a BIG back who runs with that “get off me” mentality. He only averaged around 10 carries a game but ran for over 6 yards a carry for 657 and 10 tds. He is not an easy tackle and does have good speed for his size. He punishes defenders and I will expect, with an increased role next year, he will rack up the YAC and tds!
