Jacob Sconza | River Dell
Sconza completed 62% of his passes this past weekend in a tough 29-28 loss to Nutley. The senior completed 25 of 39 passes for 398 yards and two touchdowns. He has now amassed 1,819 yards on the season through six games which is tops in the state.
Analysis: The junior does a nice job moving around in the pocket and creating extra time for his receivers to get open. He makes good reads and quickly gets the ball out of his hands on short and intermediate routes. He often throws the ball to a spot and allows his receivers to work to the ball.
Peter Delaportas Peter Delaportas 6'4" | QB Pope John XXIII | 2022 State NJ | Jefferson
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound prospect had his best game of the season as he was 23 of 30 for 355 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-7 victory over Parsippany Hills. He threw touchdown passes of 23, 27 and 49 yards.
Analysis: The Boston College commit has nice touch on his deep balls and has the arm strength to fit the ball into tight windows. He has the ability to extend plays with his feet and showcases the ability to be accurate on the move.
Frankie Farmer Frankie Farmer 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Peddie | 2023 State NJ | Peddie
Farmer once again found himself on the top performer’s list as he posted his best game of the season this past weekend in a 26-17 victory over The Hill School. Farmer completed 18 of 27 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns. He threw touchdown passes of 15, 45, 52 and 80.
Analysis: Farmer does a nice job going through his progressions and allowing the play to develop in front of him. He does a nice job getting the ball over the defenders on intermediate throws and has the arm strength to hit his receivers in stride on longer routes.
Matt Welsey Matt Welsey 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Matt Welsey | 2022 State NJ | Shawnee
Welsey is a dual-threat quarterback who completed 26 of 40 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing the ball 13 times for 22 yards and another score.
Analysis: Wesley often makes good reads in the RPO and zone option and isn’t afraid to tuck the ball and run. He has good vision when running and has the ability to move the pocket and throw on the run. He has enough arm strength to make a throw from the far hash to the far out.
Matt Augello | Freehold Township
Augello, a sophomore, made his first start of the season as Freehold fell to Neptune 38-25. He completed 18 of his 34 passes for 326 yards and a score.
Analysis: Augello doesn’t have the strongest arm but his coaches do a nice job of calling plays that allow him to get the ball out of his hands in a hurry. This past weekend they ran a number of swing passes and short routes which allowed the running backs and receivers to use their YAC ability to pick up chunk yards.
