The Lions went up by three touchdowns in the first quarter, and from that point on it was all Archbishop Carroll. They controlled all of the game’s energy and momentum on both sides of the ball, and their Junior quarterback, Tysean Helm, played his best game of the year. Let’s take a closer look at the standout Lions players from this contest.
ARCHBISHOP CARROLL
2023 5’10 160 WR – Jamarr Ebron Jamarr Ebron 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Archbishop Carroll | 2023 State MD
The top receiver in this game was absolutely Jamar Ebron. Ebron hauled in 3 receptions for 169 yards and 3 touchdowns. That’s an average of over 50 yards per reception, and he made it look easy. The Junior wideout clearly has a special relationship with his quarterback and classmate Tysean Helm, and they’ve become one of the elite quarterback-receiver tandems in the WCAC. It’s exciting to know that they have another year together next year, as well as a chance at a perfect season this year. Jamar Ebron is absolutely an elite division one level talent.
2023 6’4 240 QB – Tysean Helm
Tysean Helm played his best game of the season in this contest, and the numbers truly speak for themselves. Helm completed 85% of his passes with zero interceptions. He also threw for 248 yards and 4 touchdowns, connecting with Jamar Ebron for three of them. Helm also demonstrated his elite running ability, especially on key third down situations. Tysean Helm continues to be a crucial part of Archbishop Carroll’s perfect season run, and local scouts should absolutely know his name at this point. He has prime D1 potential.
2022 5’9 160 RB – Elijah Solomon Elijah Solomon 5'9" | 160 lbs | RB Archbishop Carroll | 2022 MD
Elijah Solomon Elijah Solomon 5'9" | 160 lbs | RB Archbishop Carroll | 2022 MD carried the ball nine times against O’Connell, and with those carries he tallied 90 yards and 2 touchdowns. What stood out for Solomon, especially in this game, is his speed. He bursts through gaps with incendiary quickness, and he does so seemingly untouched. Elijah Solomon Elijah Solomon 5'9" | 160 lbs | RB Archbishop Carroll | 2022 MD is a top 5 running back in the WCAC this season, and he definitely has the skills to play at the next level.
2024 6’0 175 QB – Kelvin Hewitt
The Sophomore quarterback came into this game well after it had been unofficially decided, as he often has this season. However, Hewitt consistently puts up solid numbers with his minimal opportunity. He threw for about 50 yards in this contest, but more importantly he took care of the football which helped his QBR, 109.7, considerably. The long term future for Archbishop Carroll is very bright with Kelvin Hewitt as their backup quarterback.
2022 5’10 220 MLB – Shon Reid Shon Reid 5'9" | 205 lbs | RB Archbishop Carroll | 2022 State MD
Shon Reid Shon Reid 5'9" | 205 lbs | RB Archbishop Carroll | 2022 State MD proved yet again why he should be considered for All-WCAC first team defensive honors this season. He recorded tackle after tackle for the Lions, and his efforts helped maintain a shutout victory. Reid deflected passes and made big plays on third down which led to consistent three and outs, but his communication during this contest was definitely his most valuable addition. Like he is every game, Shon Reid Shon Reid 5'9" | 205 lbs | RB Archbishop Carroll | 2022 State MD is the quarterback of this Archbishop Carroll defense, and if he can continue to lead them to shutout victories then Carroll should face St. John’s at the end of the season so that a D.C. champion can be crowned.
