Continue ReadingAs a whole, we feel that often times, smaller schools such as Trinity Christian can go a bit unnoticed, and underappreciated when considering their overall success as a football program. Nevertheless, as a program they have built themselves into a good football program. This year specifically, they have already achieved a 7-0 record ahead of regional play. They have stacked up wins against programs such as Athens Academy, Mount Vernon, Fellowship Christian, Claxton, Landmark Christian, ELCA, and Whitefield Academy. As this week approaches, they will hope to continue their well rounded dominance as they enter into regional play. Going into Friday’s match up against Brookstone, we expect them to gear up for their best, and most competitive game of the season. We’ll get our popcorn ready.
So far this season, the Lion’s offense has been on a roll. They have outscored opponents 372 to 61 through only 7 weeks. On only one occasion this season have they scored less than 50 points in a game. Yes, you read that correctly. The highest point total they have reached in a single game this season has been 63 points in their last win against Whitefield Academy. Along the way to this success, it should be noted that players such as QB, David Dallas David Dallas 6'0" | 200 lbs | QB Trinity Christian | 2022 State GA has completed 110 of his 144 pass attempts, and has passed for over 1,800 yards and and 23 TD’s. In addition to this, he also has 4 TD’s on the ground. The primary recipients of these TD passes include that of Dominick Cosper, Aaron Gates Aaron Gates 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Trinity | 2023 State GA , Joshua Dallas Joshua Dallas 6'1" | 190 lbs | WR Trinity Christian | 2022 State GA , and Bryce Wilcox who account for 22 TD’s on their own. On the ground, the Lions have also been unstoppable, as they have already totaled over 1,000 rushing yards and 27 TD’s. To achieve this success on the ground, players such as Cosper, who has totaled over 690 yards and 14 TD’s, are a big part of their continued balance, which is consistently keeping defenses off balance.
In addition to the Lion’s unbelievable offense is their incredible defense. As we noted above, they have held opposing offenses to a slim 61 points through 7 games. With this being said, the balanced defense has limited passing yards, as well as any effort on the ground, causing offense’s to struggle to establish any kind of consistent offense. To achieve such things, 11 total players have managed to accumulate double digit tackles. As impressive as this is, the defensive unit has largely been led by players such as Christian Hanson, who has totaled 52 tackles, Ryan Earl, who has 36 tackles, and Cameron Matthews, who has totaled around 40 tackles. For each of these players, a large portion of their tackles happens to be solo tackles. The defense has also totaled 7 sacks which is largely due to the 5 sack leader, Shawn Braxton, who has also made it hard for opposing players to run the ball on the Lions. He, along with plenty of others, have also continued to pressure passers, causing bad decisions, and incomplete passes. These bad decisions by opposing QB’s have led to 15 total interceptions by the Lions. Out of the 15 interceptions, 5 defensive players have totaled more than 2 picks. This category has been led by players such as Jimbo Batchelor, Joshua Dallas Joshua Dallas 6'1" | 190 lbs | WR Trinity Christian | 2022 State GA , and Bryce Wilcox.
