Continue ReadingWestlake dominated in the Chaparrals win over Bowie last Friday, but the win did see senior quarterback and Clemson commit Cade Klubnik Cade Klubnik 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Austin Westlake | 2022 State TX go down with a separated left shoulder injury, and could miss a couple of games. However, despite this, Westlake looked impressive and it was thanks in a large part to this batch of players.
1. Hunter Luke (JR-WR) – Westlake High School (Austin, TX)
Stats: 2 receptions, 88 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown
The Westlake passing game was hard to stop but while most of the coverage was focused on senior wide receiver Jaden Greathouse Jaden Greathouse 6'2" | 210 lbs | WR Austin Westlake | 2023 State TX , Luke had the opportunity to make a couple of big plays and he did, which includes a receiving touchdown. Bowie struggled against covering him all night and once they put more coverage onto him, Greathouse and other receivers were able to fill that gap, making it a tough night for the Bulldogs.
2. Colton Vasek (JR-DL) – Westlake High School (Austin, TX)
Stats: 6 total tackles, 5 solo tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble
On the opposite side of the ball, the entire Westlake defense deserves rewards for shutting out Bowie completely but it was Vasek who posed a big problem for the Bulldog offense. He was disruptive and always seemed to be in the face of the quarterback. He controlled the line of scrimmage and Bowie struggled to block him. Vasek should be on any opposing offenses’ radar.
3. Hunter Henault (SR-RB) – Westlake High School (Austin, TX)
Stats: 98 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown
Both the running backs for Westlake had big days against Bowie. The Bowie defense struggled to defend both Henault and Kayser, who both displayed great abilities to avoid tackles, find lanes to the endzone and show off their speed. Considering Kayser is a sophomore, Westlake has great talent in the backfield for years to come.
4. Jack Kayser (SO-RB) – Westlake High School (Austin, TX)
Stats: 100 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown
5. Cade Klubnik Cade Klubnik 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Austin Westlake | 2022 State TX (SR-QB) – Westlake High School (Austin, TX)
Stats: 159 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, 46 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown
Klubnik had a great game despite leaving early because of an injury. He was accurate, calm in the pocket and did not miss a beat. He was also tenacious, willing to get yards necessary even if he had to run in to get them. The last update on his injury is that the Clemson commit could miss a couple of games at the worst.
