Week 9 featured some pretty lofty individual performances. Let’s check out the ones that stood out the most!
Jalen Washington Jalen Washington 5'8" | 190 lbs | RB Houston | 2024 State MS | RB | Houston
The sophomore phenom continues to prove that he is one of the best backs in his class. Washington finished the night with 14 carries for 341 yards and 2 TDs. The Houston back has great speed in the open field and can make defenders miss with ease. Look for him to have another big night this week against New Albany in the last regular season game of the year. Expecting the college offers to come in soon.
Immanuel Griffin | RB | Ripley
Playing against Houston in a close shoot out, Ripley running back Immanuel Griffin put the team on his back. The senior finished the night with 358 rushing yards and 7 total TD, accounting for every point scored for his team besides PATs. Griffin is a shifty back who doesn’t get taken down easily. He bounces off contact well and finishes his runs with violence in his step. Watching for teams to get involved in his recruitment soon.
Jamari Thompson Jamari Thompson 6'2" | 240 lbs | RB Pearl | 2022 State MS | RB | Pearl
Pearl running back Jamari Thompson Jamari Thompson 6'2" | 240 lbs | RB Pearl | 2022 State MS has been dominant this season as one of 6As best backs. This past Friday was no different, with Thompson totaling 238 yards and 6 TDs in a big win over Northwest Rankin. Thompson is a very big back who runs downhill and can bowl over any defender in his path. While he already holds several offers, look for more schools to get involved soon before signing day.
Jaheim Oatis Jaheim Oatis 6'4" | 345 lbs | DL Columbia | 2022 State MS | DL | Columbia
The Alabama commit lived up to his status this past Friday. Oatis was a one man wrecking crew for Columbia, totaling 12 tackles and 5 TFLs. Oatis is a massive interior lineman who is bound to see early playing time for the Crimson Tide. His natural strength and elite get off make him a close to perfect defensive lineman at the next level. In contention for 5A Mr Football, but will be remembered as one of the best DL in Mississippi’s football history.
Marcus House | DB | South Panola
Junior defensive back Marcus House has been a guy that has popped onto our radar this season and for good reason. House is a stout corner who plays the pass well. This past week, he totaled 5 PBUs and an INT against DeSoto Central. House has a smooth transition and plays the ball well in the air. Although he may not be the biggest, House uses his technique to his advantage and has locked down multiple receivers this season. Will be included in our next rankings update.
Ju’Marion Larry | LB | Hazelhurst
Senior linebacker Ju’Marion Larry was a force this past week, totaling 8 tackles, 4 sacks, and a forced fumble in a win against Crystal Springs. Although he has his hand in the dirt this season, Larry projects well as a stand up outside linebacker at the next level. He has a special get off off the line of scrimmage and tackles incredibly well. This is a guy that uses every ounce of strength he has to punish the ball carrier every play. Looking for him to blow up in November.
Dawson Phillips | QB | Mooreville
Phillips and the Mooreville offense keep clicking. On Friday night, the gunslinger totaled 379 yards in the air with 6 touchdowns. Phillips operates well in the pocket and throws on rhythm well. He has an accurate arm and can make throws to all levels of the field. Looking for him to finish the regular season in a big way this week.
Kamp Shepherd Kamp Shepherd 6'0" | 185 lbs | ATH Tri-County Academy | 2023 State MS | ATH | Tri-County Academy
Junior Kamp Shepherd Kamp Shepherd 6'0" | 185 lbs | ATH Tri-County Academy | 2023 State MS has been one of the top performers this year in the MAIS. This past week, Shepherd totaled 104 yards and 2 TDs on offense, while having 5 tackles and an INT on defense. Shepherd is an impressive two way player who could play either position at the next level. He has smooth and natural hands as a receiver and runs crisp routes, while on defense he transitions well and plays the ball in the air. Really impressive prospect this season.
