Continue ReadingThe regular season is coming to its end and every team is doing all it can so they can get a spot into the playoffs and compete for the State Championship. This week we have another slate from all classes of high school football. Our third game is between the undefeated Franklin Flyers and the also unbeaten Red Cloud Warriors. Our second game is between the 5-1 Beatrice Orangemen and the 6-1 Seward Bluejays our final and top game of the week is with 6-0 Gretna again as they play against another rival the 5-1 Elkhorn South Storm.
Before we get into this week’s games let’s look back and see what happened last week. Our second game was a blowout with Arch Bishop Bergman destroying Aquinas 40-0 Koa McIntyre Koa McIntyre 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Archibishop Bergan (Fremont) | 2022 State NE was 14/26 for 249 passing yards and 3 passing touchdowns he also had 166 rushing yards. Koa also had 7 tackles and 1 sack. In our main game the fearsome rivals the Gretna Dragons and the Skutt Catholic Skyhawks duked it out and it was nothing that was expected. Gretna destroyed the Skyhawks 49-14 Zane Flores was a monster going 14/17 for 300 yards and 6 touchdowns Gretna had 408 total yards and their defense was up to the challenge Connor Edwards Connor Edwards 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Gretna | 2022 State NE had 7 tackles and 1 sack. Skutt had a few decent drives with Bennet Turman who was 7/16 passes and 143 yards.
Franklin VS Red Cloud
There aren’t many undefeated teams left especially in some of the smaller towns but this will be the match-up of the season. The flyers and Warriors will have to make this one entertaining, to say the least. Franklin comes in with 570 passing yards and 12 passing touchdowns. In the running game, they have 1,329 yards for 139 carries and 23 rushing touchdowns. Franklin’s QB is a player on all sides of the field having over 1,00 total yards 11 touchdowns and 37 tackles. Red Cloud has also had a great offense with 568 passing yards and 9 touchdowns on the rushing side they have 1,367 and 25 touchdowns. The Warriors have also had 6 sacks on the season, Red Cloud’s Carson McCleary has had 790 yards and 13 touchdowns. This will be an amazing small town match up two even teams coming together to play for their destiny.
Offensive Standout – Jacob Harrison, this is a new thing for us we don’t have much but Jacob has been leading his team this season. with 603 total rushing yards and 448 yards rushing. In total, he has had 1,087 yards total and with this dominance, he has scored 12 touchdowns.

Defensive Standout – Brooks Armstrong He is tough and has had 39 total tackles this year averaging around 8 tackles a game. Not only that he has 1 sack and has ad 1 fumble recovery along with an interception. His impact on this team can be a big factor in stopping the Flyer’s offense and making sure that they can’t get anything going.
Beatrice V.S. Seward
Another top game in class B between the Orangemen of Beatrice and the Bluejays of Seward. Both of these teams come into the season with one loss. So far this year Beatrice has had 613 passing yards 1,295 rushing yards and 24 total touchdowns. Their defense is also on a huge roll with 9 sacks and 6 interceptions and a blocked punt. Seward has put up a few great games this year sneaking by a couple of close games to stay with their current record. Their defense has caused so many turnovers forcing 5 interceptions and 6 fumbles. Overall they have allowed 164 points while their offense has scored 233 total points this season. This matchup will prove how strong the Orangemen defense is and can their offense can actually do its best.
Offensive Standouts – Deegan Nelson has been a large impact on the offense for the Orangemen, he has 753 rushing yards on the year and 9 touchdowns. He is quick and can push the defense inside allowing for a great passing game and leading to a lot of play-action passes. His athleticism is unmatched on his team.
Defensive Standouts – Caleb Jones 6’4 285lbs this year he has had 30 tackles with 20 solo tackles. He averages around 5 tackles a game but this means he can really make a difference in stopping and making sure a run game isn’t started. As long as he can stay there and keep the inside. The best thing a defensive tackle can do is fill holes and put pressure on the quarterback.
Gretna V.S. Elkhorn South
Gretna has been on our lists this season a few times their massive offense has been a powerhouse especially the last two games. THey destroyed Bellevue East 73-0 and then destroyed Skutt Catholic 49-14. This season Gretna has thrown for 1,333 yards passing for 15 touchdowns. One of the secrets to The Dragon’s offense is their balanced approach with the rushing game with 859 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns this allows them to control their game. Elkhorn South has also had a big season with top prospects like Chase Emsick Chase Emsick 6'4" | 300 lbs | DL Elkhorn South | 2022 State NE , Koy Willke, Ben Warren Ben Warren 5'8" | 160 lbs | RB Elkhorn South | 2022 NE , Blake Daly Blake Daly 5'10" | 150 lbs | WR Elkhorn South | 2022 State NE , Will Skardis, and finally Carsen Crouch Carsen Crouch 5'10" | 170 lbs | K Elkhorn South | 2022 State NE . They have an amazing season only allowing for 88 points this whole season and scoring 247 points. They have a great offense to compliment their defense and besides one game.
Offensive Standouts – Joe Roll 5’10” he has had only 30 receptions but has caught for almost 500 yards and 5 touchdowns he is one of the weapons quarterbacks Zane Flores can count on to be open down the field and who can make plenty of yards after the catch. Right now he averages 35 yards per game but that can go up when he is used right against the storm.
Defensive Standouts – Cole Mitchell 5’9 170lbs, Cole is fast and can move all over the place all the way back from the second he can move all the way up and fill in the running lanes and fill them. His athleticism is what makes him stand out compared to other secondary around the state of Nebraska.
