Take a look at the offensive edition of Prep Redzone Iowa’s All-Regular Season Team. Congratulations to these players on a remarkable 2021 campaign!
Jack Gilligan Jack Gilligan 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Dubuque Senior | 2022 State IA , QB, Dubuque Senior, Twitter
What Gilligan was able to put together as a field general against the best competition Iowa has to offer is so impressive. The statistics, 2,114 yards and 17 touchdowns, tell a story of a very successful fall. The film, which shows just how college ready he is, tells another. His pocket presence and throwing mechanics are primed for the next level. Gilligan is a cerebral player with great instincts and all the physical tools to boot.
Bryant Williams, RB, Burlington, Twitter
Williams put up video game numbers out of the backfield week in and week out. He amassed an astonishing 2,025 yards and 27 touchdowns on 194 carries. Williams has blazing speed, the kind that makes him look like he is moving in fast-forward. Burlington ran 90% of the time and defenses loaded the box. It didn’t matter; Williams ability to create and redirect bought him space and once he got it nobody could touch him.
Dawson Forgy Dawson Forgy 5'11" | 185 lbs | RB Winterset | 2022 State IA , RB, Winterset, Twitter
Forgy finished the regular season having carried 161 times for 1,723 yards and 25 touchdowns. Some of his best outings came against Winterset’s toughest competition; as the game got harder, Forgy got better. Nobody trusts their Offensive Line quite like Forgy. The patience he displayed, allowing them to work before making his move, was impossible to defend. Forgy’s vision and moves in the open field are elite.
Graham Friedrichsen Graham Friedrichsen 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Urbandale | 2022 State IA , WR, Urbandale, Twitter
Friedrichsen is king of the big play and an expert vertical threat. The wideout got behind and around coverage route after route for a 35 catch, 830 yard, 9 touchdown regular season. Nobody seemed to understand how their pattern could attack and beat a defense like Friedrichsen. His deep game left Defensive Back’s heads spinning. The way opponents feared his deep game made him just as dangerous underneath.
Connor Frame Connor Frame 6'2" | 190 lbs | WR Harlan | 2022 State IA , WR, Harlan, Twitter
Frame’s natural position is Wide Receiver, but let’s just call him an athlete and one of the best around for that matter. In his expanded role Frame had 71 touches, 1,048 total yards, and 19 touchdowns. Frame scored 27% of the time his number was called. He is dynamic and explosive in routes or on handoffs. Frame’s ability to accelerate and reach top speed in a few steps gives him the edge no matter what he’s doing.
Will Orness, WR, Humboldt, Twitter
Orness averaged over 100 receiving yards per game this regular season; that is an exclusive club to be in with rare company. He pulled in 57 passes for 931 yards and 14 touchdowns. The way he can adjust his routes to get open and his body once the ball is in the air makes any throw a good one. His burst off the line of scrimmage can put any Defensive Back in a bind. Orness is adept at keeping plays alive after the catch.
Korver Hupke Korver Hupke 6'2" | 245 lbs | OL Independence | 2023 State IA , OL, Independence, Twitter
Hupke blocked and paved the way for a Running Back that totaled over 1,900 yards in the regular season. He erupts out of his stance with some of the most impressive athleticism in Iowa. The way Hupke climbs and pulls to create rushing lanes that extend beyond the line of scrimmage is as good as it gets. His feet take him to blocks at great angles, they accelerate on contact, and they drive opponents into the ground.
Easton Eledge Easton Eledge 6'3" | 295 lbs | OL Underwood | 2022 IA , OL, Underwood, Twitter
Eledge absolutely pummeled those who lined up across from him as the anchor of an Offensive Line on 1A’s highest scoring offense. He is a specialist at digging defenders out of gaps and punishing opponents who get too far upfield when he pulls. The physicality and nastiness Eledge executes his responsibilities with is excellent. He moves very well leading through gaps and blocking downfield and is immovable in pass sets.
Joe Turner Joe Turner 6'4" | 285 lbs | OL Davenport Assumption | 2022 State IA , OL, Assumption, Twitter
Turner’s mauling of Defensive Linemen made it possible for the Knights to rush for over 2,000 yards and average 7 yards per carry as an offense. The big Tackle also has one of the best, most balanced, and technical pass sets around. The way he finishes plays is mean; he overtakes defenders, takes them for a ride, and smashes them into the turf. Turner is equally dominant from the left and right side of the line.
Liam Becher Liam Becher 6'6" | 310 lbs | OL Iowa City West | 2022 State IA , OL, Iowa City West, Twitter
Becher’s dominance at Tackle is a foremost reason why the Trjoans had one of just six 1,000 yard rushers in 5A. The 6’6 giant moves incredibly well for his size; this is most obvious when reaching Ends, downblocking Tackles, and driving back in his pass set. The playbook is wideopen with an athlete of his caliber on the line. He repeatedly went toe to toe with the best edge defenders in Iowa and came out on top.
Brennen Blegen, OL, Benton, Twitter
Blegen, just a Sophomore, is a violent pancake machine whose body of work in the regular season will, without a doubt, see his recruitment skyrocket. He has very strong hands that jolt opponents at the point of attack and immediately give him an advantage. Blegen can execute a variety of blocks at Guard, gets a ton of movement, and usually eliminates more than one defender from the play. He’s a monster.
