While those players definitely deserve a look, here are some more players to keep an eye out for.
1. Cash McCollum (SO-QB) – Wimberley High School (Wimberley, TX)
2021 Season: 1,562 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns, 5 interceptions
McCollum and Wimberley have had a successful season thus far but one of the biggest challenges of the year comes in the form of Grapevine. The Mustangs are 6-2 this season with the only losses coming at the first two weeks of the year. Since then, Grapevine has dominated nearly every team. Considering the pressure on McCollum’s shoulders, this will be a true test for him.
2. Dior Bradfield (SR-QB) – Weiss High School (Pflugerville, TX)
2021 Season: 2,009 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, 3 interceptions
Weiss has enjoyed a very successful year but the season is not done and Cedar Park is the next opponent. The Timberwolves are not to be underestimated but neither is Bradfield. This will be Bradfield’s chance to truly showcase his abilities against the famous Black Rain defense.
3. Josh Pell (SR-QB) – Cedar Park High School (Cedar Park, TX)
2021 Season: 1,633 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns, 6 interceptions
Much in the same way for Bradfield, Pell will face off against a great team that only has one loss this season. This will be a test for Pell as Cedar Park has faced some tough losses but does have the potential to make an upset.
4. Preston Alford Preston Alford 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Dripping Springs | 2022 State TX (SR-RB) – Dripping Springs High School (Dripping Springs, TX)
2021 Season: 775 rushing yards, 18 rushing touchdowns
Alford has arguably been the most dominant force in Central Texas but two undefeated teams collide in Dripping Springs vs Johnson. However, Dripping Springs does have a huge asset in Alford who has sat on top of the Central Texas player rankings essentially all year.
5. Jesse Medina (JR-QB) – Johnson High School (Buda, TX)
2021 Season: 1,915 passing yards, 23 passing touchdowns, 3 interceptions, 420 rushing yards, 7 rushing touchdowns
Medina leads Johnson into its toughest matchup yet against Dripping Springs in what can turn into a shootout. In games like this, coaches and teams will look to the star players and for Johnson, one of them is Medina who has showcased his abilities both through the air and on the ground. This will be a huge game for Medina’s career.
