Northwest vs Sherwood
This is definitely the game of the week. Two undefeated teams face off in the biggest game in the county. Both of these teams are near the top of the entire state. A win here for either team could prove that they’re the top public school in the state.
Northwest player to watch: Darius Lorfils Darius Lorfils 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB Northwest | 2022 State MD – Sherwood will likely try to keep the ball on the ground as they try to keep the ball away from Lorfils. On offense, Lorfils is going to have to have a big game as this Sherwood defense is going to be a tough test for Northwest. Lorfils will be the key to victory for Northwest
Sherwood player to watch: Nathan Natoli – Natoli may be the most underrated lineman in the county. He is absolutely dominant and is definitely a D1 talent. Northwest has good size on the line so this will be an opportunity for Natoli to showcase just how good he is.
Rockville vs Blair
If Northwest and Sherwood wasn’t going down this Friday this would be the game of the week. Rockville is undefeated while Blair is 4-1. These are two playoff teams that now have an opportunity to get a big resume-building win. Look out for the winner of this game as they can use this game as a springboard and make a run during the playoffs.
Blair player to watch: Kendall Anderson – This is an opportunity for Anderson to get some spotlight and make a name for himself. He has put up big numbers and will have to have a big game to beat this tough Rockville team. Expect Blair to use Anderson both inside of the pocket and out of it.
Rockville player to watch: Okeyo Ayungo – This Blair team has a lot of athletes so it will be a big test for Ayungo. Ayungo is a 2-way star and is the most important skill position player on this Rockville team. Expect them to use his size and speed to make plays.
BCC vs Walter Johnson
This is a regional rivalry matchup. Both of these teams are sitting with winning records so this game could have big implications when it comes to playoff seeding. This should be a very emotional game.
BCC player to watch: Jeremiah Bruce – Bruce has great size. He is the prototypical run-stuffing interior lineman. He is not only big but he has great power and is able the shrug blockers off or sometimes even just run right through them. Walter Johnson has a spread attack so fully expect them to keep things to the outside to avoid dealing with Bruce.
Walter Johnson player to watch: Amir Frye Amir Frye 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Walter Johnson | 2022 MD – Frye has been the most consistent player on the Wildcats. Despite the opponent and who he is up against, he comes to play. Frye will do a great job Friday setting the edge and not allow BCC to catch Walter Johnson out the back door.
Gaithersburg vs Watkins Mill
This is another rivalry matchup. Both teams are currently winless but don’t let this fool you there will be plenty of talent on the field. This is a sleeper game but it should still be a fun one.
Gaithersburg player to watch: Jabreian Harden – Harden is a defensive end. He is undersized but what he lacks in size he makes up for in aggressiveness. He comes down feel hard and isn’t afraid of contact. Expect Harden’s aggressiveness to allow him to make a few plays against Watkins Mill.
Watkins Mill player to watch: Demari Brown – Watkins Mill’s defense has had a rough season but that hasn’t stopped Brown from making plays. He is responsible for a couple of turnovers. He has good size and athleticism so expect him to be a problem for Gaithersburg.
