Continue ReadingComing into this season, the percentages were definitely with head coach Matt Toblin and his Jacksonville Bolles football team.
Prior to this year, here is a football program that was in the mix for a state title in three of the past five years – and while they lost to Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons last season, 35-21, enough talent was coming back for the Bulldogs to make a solid run – and they have.
In addition to that loss to the Chiefs in Tallahassee last December, this program has indeed been a model of consistency, starting with 2019 (11-2 state 4A runner up), 2018 (8-5, lost to Jacksonville Trinity in playoffs), 2017 (8-4, lost to Jacksonville Trinity in playoffs) and 2016 (12-1 state 4A runner up).
Since 1975, Bolles has certainly been among the best in the state – with 11 State Championships, 8 times State Runners-up, 32 District Championships and 5 IMSC Championships. But it’s been a decade (2011) since the last state crown, and while the amazing memory of longtime head coach Corky Rogers still lives on, this is the year that this team certainly has it all.
If you doubt what they have done, all you have to look at the fashion in which they have beaten their six opponents – starting with West Nassau (42-0), talented Lake City Columbia (34-7), competitive St. Augustine (32-27), Fernandina Beach (49-14), defending state 2A runner up Jacksonville University Christian (31-0) and last year’s 3A state champion Jacksonville Trinity Christian (35-0).
Coming into this Friday night’s non-district road game at Gainesville Buchholz, they have outscored the opposition, 223-48.
SENIOR CLASS IS TALENTED
