Continue ReadingIn today’s article, we dove deep into the world of defensive backs and looked at which ones are giving quarterbacks fits this season. It’s a senior-laden group that features both cornerbacks and safeties from around the state. The group is full of sleepers and features only two prospects with FBS offers. Here’s who to know.
Langston Lewis, 6’, 180, Islands, Sr
On tape, Lewis is an extremely rangy safety prospect. He showed great vertical leaping ability and soft hands in traffic. He reads route concepts well and isn’t afraid to step in front of a target. After he intercepts a pass, watch out as he is an absolute terror with the ball in his hands. He shows compact breaks and can add value as a swing defensive back who can play corner when in a pickle.
Committed to Central Michigan
Xavier Wright, 6’2″, 180, Shiloh, Sr
A lanky center fielder with excellent closing speed. Wright always seems to be around the football and uses his long arms to cause disruption & deflect opposing quarterback’s passes. The recovery speed you want in a safety is there, as is the ability to read the quarterback’s body language. Wright’s size and football IQ make him someone to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
Terian Williams Terian Williams 5'11" | 175 lbs | ATH Johns Creek | 2022 State GA , 5’11″, 175, Johns Creek, Sr
Phenomenal instincts to go with crisp breaks. Williams plays fundamentally sound and rarely lets a receiver sneak behind him in zone coverage. He consistently wins on 1 on 1 throws and can make something happen with the ball in his hands. He’s an intelligent prospect who runs to the near shoulder and can track the vertical ball in the air. He’s not afraid to come up and tackle in space & will use the sweep tackle to his advantage.
Committed to Stanford
KJ Reid, 6’1″, 155, Social Circle, Sr
A consistent cornerback who stays over the top in zone and will bait quarterbacks into making dumb throws. Reid is comfortable in press and has the top-end speed to run stride for stride with wideouts on the perimeter. He’s a talented blitzer off the edge who can track down scrambling quarterbacks relatively easily. Reid is quite elusive and uses his burst & wiggle to give receivers major issues blocking on the outside.
Bryghton Peters, 6′, 180, Norcross, Sr
Peters shows a high level of athleticism and quite impressive ball skills. He doesn’t bite on play-action and will lean & locate the football when it’s in the air. He’s comfortable playing out of a back-pedal and can drop his hips & get out of breaks once he sees the ball is thrown. He doesn’t get rattled in the red area and will mirror the opposing receiver’s hands & punch the football out.
