CUMMING - One of the state’s top playmakers has made his college commitment, and he made sure to break down his commitment to Prep Redzone before making his decision public. 4-star tight end [player_tooltip player_id="33945" first="Oscar" last="Delp"] of West Forsyth (GA) bursted onto the scene in September of 2020 after the first game of his junior season. The 6-foot-5 225-pound pass-catcher earned major offers throughout his junior season as he climbed towards the top of the tight end rankings across the country. In the end, Delp narrowed his final group of schools down to Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina and Michigan. The Adidas All-American has family ties to South Carolina, Michigan and Clemson, but in the end, his relationship with Georgia Bulldog tight ends coach Todd Hartley helped the Bulldogs earn his commitment. So why did Delp choose Georgia? He broke down his decision with Prep Redzone Georgia. "The biggest reason why I chose Georgia was because it was really that one school that gave me that true home feeling and that never went away. The staff was consistent every time I went there and watching them play just solidified my decision more and more. I really like what they’re doing with Brock Bowers and the other tight ends right now. I think I’m going to fit perfectly in that offense.” Delp was a priority target for the Georgia staff and he grew a strong bond with Georgia tight ends coach Todd Hartley, one of the best recruiters in all of college football. Delp told Prep Redzone he’s looking forward to playing for Hartley, who has developed players who have gone on to play in the NFL. “I can’t wait to go play for him”, Delp said. “All the players that he’s developed just speaks for itself. He’s an awesome, awesome person and he’s very close with my family and I. He won my parents over before he won me over I think but he was going to win me over either way. He kept his word throughout the entire process. He told me I was the only guy he was going to recruit and he stuck with his word through everything.” The West Forsyth Wolverine star has known for a few weeks now where he’s wanted to go and made sure to tell the coaching staff a while back. “I told the staff the news a couple of weeks ago and they were ecstatic”, Delp said. “They started screaming on the phone they was so happy. I called coach Hartley first and then I called coach Smart right after.” In the end, Delp said that he always knew deep down that he wanted to end up at Georgia. “I think I always had a feeling in my heart that I was going to end up at Georgia,” Delp said. “I just didn’t want to get too attached when the season started. Just getting to watch offensive coordinator Todd Monken’s offense take off this year and what they did in the first game against Clemson solidified it for me. Every game since then has been building off that and I just knew that’s where I wanted to be.” As a player, Delp is an elite pass-catcher who can be a true difference maker in the passing game. He has a great frame and runs like a deer. He’s an excellent route runner for his size and knows how to create separation from the defender. He has big, reliable hands and can be a major weapon in the redzone. Delp is also excellent after the catch. He picks up yards in a hurry and can be tough to bring down by just one defender. He’s an alpha on the field and plays with passion. He wants the ball, and if he makes a play, he’s going to bring some excitement. You just don’t see many guys his size who can run and change directions the way Delp does. He already looks like an SEC tight end from a physical standpoint and can hold his own on the edge in the run game. He’s a physical blocker and he’s getting stronger and stronger by the day. His biggest strength is his ability to catch the ball, and he’s going to have a lot of opportunities to do so in Athens.
