Da’Von Doughty Da’Von Doughty 5'10" | 205 lbs | LB North Side | 2023 State IN – Bishop Luers – LB – 5’10″ 205 lbs
Doughty was a benefactor of being in the right place in the right time on Friday. Bishop Dwenger tried running some trick play on Friday and it did not work. I’m still not sure what the intention was but the RB wasn’t even looking for the pitch, the ball hit the ground, and Doughty was off to the races. He hit the endzone and the Luers sideline was wild. It was a great example of why effort plays in football win games and as a coach you love to see plays like that. Doughty wasn’t done yet either. He jumped a post route on the very next drive and returned that ball to the endzone as well. In back-to-back defensive plays, Doughty not only made the play but found the endzone.
Evan Linker – Bishop Luers – DT – 5’11″ 200 lbs
Linker is learning how to play the run and he was struggling for a bit there. Sometimes he gets too far upfield in the running game and removes himself as a factor in the play. That was different on Friday and he came through. He was stopping the interior running game all night long. Anytime they tried running at him in the A and B gaps it didn’t go well for the offense. He blew up one play in particular that led to a punt. He decided it was time to have a meeting with their QB and he made it happen.
Colin Vance – Bishop Dwenger – OLB – 6’2″ 185 lbs
Vance was a consistent problem for Bishop Luers all night. It felt like he was always a step ahead of them for a while. He was making tackles and flying all over the backend of the defense. On Friday, he was the beneficiary of the QB getting hit as the ball was being thrown. Vance came down with the big interception and returned it for 20-yards before setting up the offense in scoring position.
Jack Tippmann Jack Tippmann 6'4" | 225 lbs | TE Bishop Dwenger | 2022 State IN – Bishop Dwenger – DT – 6’5″ 220 lbs
Normally it is his brother getting all the love but Jack came through big on Friday scoring his first-ever defensive TD. He got his massive palm on the ball and it bounced right out. It just right into his hands and he returned it the 5-yards for a TD. He was steady in the run game all night but his biggest impact was by far the TD he scored right when Bishop Luers had all of the momentum.
