Take a look at who made our list!
Bennett Burd | QB | Fargo Shanley (ND) | 2022
Stat Line: 25/37, 333 passing yards, five touchdowns.
Burd had a strong game in a 49-7 win over Grand Forks Red River in Week 8 of the regular season for the Deacons. Burd showed a quick release from the pocket and showed good athleticism when his reads were not there causing him to use his feet on the run. I like the speed Bennett works with as far as getting into his rotation on the snap as even though from the average fan it looks rushed, he shows good composure all the way thru his throwing motion and gives his WR a chance to make a play. The Deacons will go back to their QB1 in their Week 9 game vs. West Fargo in Michael Rostberg Michael Rostberg 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Shanley | 2023 State , but Burd looked good in relief especially in Week 9.
Game Tape vs. GF Red River (watch #6)
Josh Grosdidier Josh Grosdidier LB Mitchell | 2022 State | RB/LB | Mitchell (SD) | 2022
Stat Line: 25 carries, 155 yards, one touchdown. Defense: 12 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble
Grosdidier was an excellent competitor for the Mitchell Kernels in their 27-13 upset win over Watertown last Friday night. On both sides of the ball, he spread his wings for a terrific outing especially defensively. Josh did a great job at crashing into the backfield and giving the ball carrier and quarterback a hard time to get any space away from his crashing ability. For some reason the Arrows left this young man unblocked or lightly blocked, allowing him to shed out of contact easily and creating a solid lane for him to make a play on the ball carrier. At running back, Grosdidier showed great strength to bounce off defenders with ease mainly from the tough inside lanes. Josh showed against Watertown it takes an army to bring him down as in the multiple plays I saw on film, it took multiple defenders to bring this young man to the grass and around the sidelines, he was usually still on his feet. Based on this tape, I think Grosdidier could be a steal as a small-school prospect as he is a well-put-together (6’2 210) and plays on both sides with authority.
Tyree Nave Tyree Nave 6'1" | 175 lbs | ATH SF Roosevelt | 2022 State | RB/LB | Sioux Falls Roosevelt (SD) | 2022
Stat Line: 13 carries, 102 yards, four touchdowns (3 rush 1 return)
Not once but twice this season that Tyree Nave Tyree Nave 6'1" | 175 lbs | ATH SF Roosevelt | 2022 State has gone for four touchdowns in a game as we close out Week 9. When I watch Tyree, I just love his footwork as he has an excellent shift in his hips but never seems to overstride on his runs, he just executes his moves so well. With such an outstanding offensive line in front of him, he runs with great discipline and hits his gaps as they come in his direction. Defensively, he has long legs at linebacker, and that skill set alone causes him to climb to the ball carrier at a quicker rate than come linebackers you’ll see on film. He also makes excellent contact in the bulk of his hits I have seen on film over the last year or so. It still is really surprising to me that Nave with his skillset on both sides of the ball has not grabbed more attention on the recruiting trail as I think this young man could line up in multiple spots at the next level. Despite having two D2 offers, I think Nave is still wildly under the radar.
Ronnie Begalka | DE | Deuel (SD) | 2023
Stat Line: 11 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks, 2 QB hurries.
Begalka showed some great skillsets in the Cardinals nail-biter 38-36 win over Clark-Willow Lake. Ronnie plays with a strong chip on his shoulder when he is fighting off blocks and has a good get-off shed ability to add even more chips in his game. This young man fired up the ignition when he was in spitting distance of the ball carrier as in the multiple clips I watched, he showed high adrenaline when attacking the ball carrier with heavy contact. When moving off his blocks he showed great speed to make a quick swim move to get into the wheelhouse of the running back. I think with another season and some added weight-room strength, we could be looking at another prospect from the Deuel Cardinals playing college football at the next level as there is a lot to like about this young man.
Game Tape vs. Clark/Willow Lake
Blayson Dolney | QB/DB | Oakes (ND) | 2024
Stat Line: 4 tackles, 3 PBUs, 2 interceptions. Offense: 6/11, 77 yards, one touchdown.
Blayson graded at a high level defensively for the Tornadoes in Week 9 with that stat line listed above. Dolney is just a sophomore with limited film, but we reviewed his 2020 tape to give the PRZ Dakotas some insight about his game. In the just under 30 seconds of action at WR last season, we can certainly see the great ball skills Dolney brought to the table last week as he also has good hands and balance to make a plethora of plays for the Tornadoes!
Colt Wilkinson | QB/DB | De Smet (SD) | 2022
Stat Line: 15/24, 192 all-purpose yards, 3 total touchdowns (2 pass, 1 rush). Defense: 14 total tackles.
After watching him live just a few weeks ago, it was great to see Colt Wilkinson nominated again as one of our Big Dogs for the De Smet Bulldogs. I loved watching Wilkinson defensively against Dell Rapids St. Marys, as he showed a great mix of tackles and logged double-digits on the game. He showed a great bend and pad level to get low on some of the smaller ball carriers the opposing Cardinals had to offer. I love watching Colt’s fight on tape, as on one of his runs for a touchdown he showed a high level of strength but you can tell was a kid that was fighting for every yard he could get on any given play. Also yet again, showed great touch and precision on his longer throws. I certainly think more college programs need to take a trip to De Smet this offseason before it’s too late, as I believe Wilkinson would be a fun scholarship-level prospect to watch at the next level.
Oliver Lucht Oliver Lucht 6'1" | 200 lbs | WR Fargo Davies | 2023 State | ATH | Fargo Davies (ND) | 2023
Stat Line: N/A
Another prospect you have seen on our Big Dogs of the Week list is Oliver Lucht Oliver Lucht 6'1" | 200 lbs | WR Fargo Davies | 2023 State of Fargo Davies. I love how this kid can adjust when the ball is coming his way, as he shows a good turn in his body to make an easier play. Another skill set out there longer than his size is his reach, as on a 96-yard touchdown last week, his stretch was very eye-opening as he made the catch and sprinted for a touchdown. When you flip Oliver to linebacker you see a kid with soft hands on the defender but has a quick jump of speed to get off his man and find the football easily. This young man has tons of burst wherever you line him up on multiple fronts whether it is at WR, LB, etc. In coverage, he shows great alertness on short passes to identify where the ball is going to go and then reacts quickly to get across the ball with that reach of his. The biggest development I see in Lucht is coming out of the slot, I believe he can get even better on his stop routes with more control of his footwork.
