Continue ReadingMan I never get tired of watching Houston high school football games every Friday night. I went all the way to Humble, Texas to watch these two highly ranked schools play an amazing game. The Atascocita Eagles (6-1) played against The Summer Creek Bulldogs (4-2) at Turner Stadium. Both teams were stacked very competitive game. The game even went into overtime I never saw a high school football game go into overtime ever. The game ended with The Atascocita Eagles being victorious with a score of 30-24. The Atascocita Eagles are ranked #12 in Texas and #54 in the entire nation had a phenomenal game. Even with their senior quarterback #7 Gavin Session out with a torn ACL. The Atascocita Eagles had a lot of offensive weapons that I’ll be discussing.
#5 Zion Brown QB So 6’0 170 lbs
Even though like I stated earlier the starting quarterback Gavin Session is out because of a torn ACL, but the backup quarterback Zion Brown was able to bring The Atascocita Eagles to victory. Considering Zion is still only a sophomore he still has a lot room to grow especially his passing skills. However, Zion had great footwork, tons of mobility and outstanding speed. Zion ran the ball more times then he threw it, but when he did throw the ball he made a few good passes that heavily impacted the game. Zion threw a 71 yard touchdown pass early on in the game and put Atascocita in a good spot for a field goal that tied up the game for overtime. With Zion speed and footwork I think he could be a great quarterback, but ultimately I believe he would be better as running back or wide receiver. Zion ended the night by rushing in two for touchdowns himself and threw one touchdown pass.
#1 Chase Sowell WR Sr 6’3 195 lbs
Zion’s had two main targets for wide receivers the one he threw it to the most was Chase Sowell. Chase had a pretty great night he has a lot of speed and tall at the height of 6’3. Chase used his speed to cut up downfield and beat out the man in front of him. I will say Chase did miss and drop a couple passes, but no one is perfect he made up for it overall. Chase is a college prospect having four offers from Sam Houston State University, University of Northern Iowa, Howard Payne University and UTSA. Chase ended the night with a 71 yard receiving touchdown.
#2 Keith Wheeler Keith Wheeler 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Atascocita | 2022 State TX WR Sr 6’1 175 lbs
#2 Keith Wheeler Keith Wheeler 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Atascocita | 2022 State TX was the other main wide receiver. Keith was a fast wide receiver he always found himself in great position to catch the ball. Keith was usually open shaking off his defender and getting downfield. Keith caught a good amount of quick short passes getting the necessary yards to put Atascocita in a good position. Keith is a valuable wide receiver and also a top college prospect having numerous amount of offers. From Arkansas State, University of Houston, Kansas University, University of Tulsa, UTSA and many others. I’m sure Keith will keep standing out the remainder of his senior year.
#6 Tyras Winfield RB, WR Sr 5’9 175 lbs
Tyras Winfield doubled as a running back and wide receiver. Tyras would run the ball a few times, but mainly went into motion as a wide receiver As a receiver Tyras mainly went out for short burst quick passes. Tyras had a quick and explosive takeoff making it easy for him to get in position for the quick passes. Tyras averaged a good amount of yards and a lot 1st downs. Tyras is a college prospect having three offers from East Texas Baptist University, Arkansas Tech and Louisiana College.
