In the Grand Rapids area last week we saw the best game of the year thus far with Forest Hills Central and Grand Blanc, we saw Cass Tech roll Muskegon, plus upsets, standouts, and more. This could be the week where we can really get a good idea of who’s elite and who’s falling short. Here are 4 of the best Grand Rapids area matchups in week 3.
Grand Rapids Christian (0-2) @ East Grand Rapids (1-1) – Two experienced teams take the field this Friday in a huge rivalry matchup. For Grand Rapids Christian, they’re off to a rocky start and in jeopardy to start 0-3. Though looking at their schedule, their losses are against two very good teams in South Christian and Unity Chrisitan. If Christian is going to win, OLB CJ Jones needs to have a dominant game. On the other side, East Grand Rapids is 1-1 with a loss against a great Zeeland West team and an impressive win against South Christian. Coming in at home and as the favorites, I’m looking for a nice steady performance from QB Preston Bergstrom to seal the W.
Ottawa Hills (1-1) @ Cedar Springs (1-1) – This is going to be an interesting game with two teams that don’t have much hype around them. Cedar Springs one Loss is against a great Rockford team, while Ottawa Hills lost a nailbiter against Union. This game reminds me lots of that Otta Hills-Union matchup featuring 2 great running backs. Scharai Horton Scharai Horton 5'9" | 190 lbs | QB Ottawa Hills | 2022 MI needs to come out big for Ottawa Hills as he did in week 1, and Austin Langworthy needs to come out strong for Cedar Springs. The team with the most rushing yards will come out with the W.
Muskegon (1-1) @ Zeeland West (1-0) – A marquee OK-Green matchup, Muskegon will travel to Zeeland West after a brutal loss to Cass Tech. In the gauntlet that the OK-Green is, the loser of this matchup will have trouble winning the league. This is a truly great matchup that showcases lots of talent. With Zeeland West, Skyler Geurink will try and show out at RB and S with his blazing speed against the immense talent of OLB Dominic Sugin and DE Dametrius Walker for Muskegon.
Fruitport (1-1) @ Coopersville (2-0) – This is a matchup that I am thoroughly interested in following as both teams have shown some significant improvement coming into this season. Fruitport is coming off of a hard loss to Cadillac, with quarterback protection being the main concern in that game. I’ve mentioned his name time and time again, but Gavin Reames Gavin Reames 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Fruitport | 2022 MI will have a great game if you give him time. As for Coopersville, they’ve been as impressive as ever scoring a combined 84 points in their first 2 games. The key for Coopersville is the defensive front, watch for DE Tim Allen to get after the quarterback.
